Will this take me to the top?

I have a site with 35 thousand posts. They are all products, it's not very well optimized, that will not change.

I've optimized the crap out of the front page and blog, and other aspects of the site.

Now I go around hunting do-follow blogs and forums with excellent page ranking and post like 50+ links per day with relevant comments.

Is this enough to get to the top 3 places in a fairly competitive niche?

Probably not! I have found that using several different link building methods works best - like article marketing, directory submissions, links exchanges etc. Do what you are doing, but also use these other methods.

No way will that be enough. Add article marketing, bookmarking, and a crap load of link farms...

I think you should continue that you are doing and also do article marketing,directory submission,profile link building to high PR sites,social bookmarking.
You can also try social media marketing to get lots of traffic.
