Will SEO always be needed?

Obviously no one knows the definite answer to this question but id like to hear your opinions on whether you think SEO will always be needed or not. Do you think its possible for SE's to become so sophisticated that people will no longer need to hire SEO professionals or even need to do SEO at all?

I believe thats the purpose of every search engine. To put it in other words, get prepared for patches that will rank u dead bottom, if you are a spammy low-quality website.
 
As long as there are Search Engines, there will be a Search Engine Results Page. As long as there is a Search Engine Results Page, there will be Ranking. As long as there is Ranking, there will be Competition.

Moral:

As long as there are Search Engines, there will be Search Engine Optimization

I think SEO will always be needed. Its effectiveness and difficulty may change, but that's it.

Even if search engines were incredibly smart and chose only the top pages to rank, only about 10 sites would profit from this per search query (realistically, only 3). This leaves hundreds to thousands of other sites thirsty for the top rankings, and I doubt those webmasters will just give up because they believe the search engines made the right choices.

There are tons of high quality sites, and only a few top ranking positions. This will always create a battle for the top positions, and that battle is fought through the means of SEO.
 
I personally think it will always be needed because I cannot imagine any possibilities where it will no longer be needed. But then sometimes you dont know what you dont know so I thought id look for some input. Its good to look into these types of things and think about them when youre deciding to dedicate your whole life and income to something.
So to Skyrockets reply, I dont think too much, you just think too little. Just trying to be smart about the things I get into. Sustainability is definitely something you should consider in a career choice.
 
As with everything in this world, things change. 20 years ago, Google wasnt even existent. Who knows that in another 20 years, Google will still even be here. Even then, people used to use yellow pages or other directories. Idk if it will be existent in the next 20 years or so, but I can tell you it's not forever.
 
There will always be a need for more traffic.
 
Things are constantly evolving. As such, SEO constantly evolves. Get creative.

One of the most important things for a good SEO, in my opinion, should be a high degree of continued education.
 
I am pretty sure SEO will be around for a long time.
 
Just what snort said. This will be here forever, Seo is becoming more and more interesting.
 
SEO is dead. The new form of SEO, as espoused by geniuses like Rand Fishkin is as follows:

-Build it and they will come.
-Build the best content / product you possibly can, and millions of dollars will literally fall from the sky as everyone worships and loves on your content, and you won't even have to do any real SEO.
-Link-earning aka Put some knee pads on and get to work "earning" those links, buddy.
-If you want to be a "guru", start a blog where you "interpret" Google's latest blog post. You won't even have to do any real SEO anymore, as people will line up to give you money for your "revolutionary" advice.


For the rest of us, there's the real world. LOL Sorry, had to.
 
SEO is really little more than gaming the system.

As Google continues to close the loopholes and more are punished for their tactics, people are returning to real business.

If you want to build a business, gaming the system, is highly risky.

If you want quick cash and don't care about long term business then by all means, keep doing SEO.

I want to rank my sites whole life. Plus SEO will never be dead.
 
As long as Search engines exists they need somethings to fill those listing and search terms so it will definitely be around.
 
This is so silly. Search engines are built by man, man uses algorithms to determine ranking. An algorithms is merely a complex system that returns a result based on an input. No matter how complex this system gets the content is still examined and the results given. As long as computers work this way (the only way they work) then content (be it links or articles or anything that is the input) can be artifically created.
 
SEO is an evolving process. What we know about SEO today, may completely change tomorrow and not everyone can afford adwords for their source of traffic.
