A couple years ago I suggested this, thread got closed. Just wanted to follow up.

Resizing locally-hosted images. Any plans on this bug getting patched this year?

Paste an image from your clipboard and then try to resize. Notice it doesn't post with the new size. Tiny screenshots appear massive. Here's an attempt at me screenshotting your username, sizing it down and posting it.

And here's how it actually looks when I edit it on my side and scale it down.

Yes noticed this a few times. One solution is to first resize images in your device and then upload it.

I can't be the only one who doesn't download every photo I use

So it's not a fix as such it's additional functionality you'd like to see in the forum. IE you'd like to be able to edit images you put into threads.
So good news we've had a solution for this for some time. Providing you upload using the insert image function or drag and drop the image into the reply box or even copy/paste, ie it's hosted on our platform as an attachment of some sort.

and then click on the image you'll get the ability to resize and do some manipulation to the image

Answered - it has been for some time.
Closed.

Correction apologies - this isn't working on all platforms. Added to review list, but as it's not core forum functionality, it's not a top priority.
Until that point, we recommend using the native image app on your phone / laptop or https://squoosh.app/
