If I built spammy links to my subdomain "sub.website.com", and I've decided that now I don't want these links connected at all to my root domain "website.com", can I delete the subdomain to achieve this? Or will google still keep the previously built links connected to my root domain?

They will be connected to the sub-domain still, the links just will not go anywhere and will eventually be deleted.

I dont think that spammy links will be deleted that easily... Especially blog comments, they will stay there forever... Or maybe until the website itself gets deleted.

They get deleted after awhile. I have seen it happen. It is not instant, I never said that.

yes, it depends how moderated are the places you have the links to. it may take some time

Even if the links would'n be deleted, if you do 404 on your subdomain then google shouldn't connect it with your root domain.
