I have mixed feelings in this. Does anyone know if buying a domain one year at a time differ from buying it for 10 years in the SERPS?

I've heard that buying a domain for 5+ years vs. 1 year can affect AdWords Quality Score, and since SEO can also affect the QS, it makes sense that the domain registration period would affect the SERPs. I have been purchasing one-year registrations and getting ranked, so I really don't think that the registration period is a huge factor.

If you are referring to the expiry date, I don't think it matters.
However, if you are serious about your domain as your Internet business, I don't see a point of buying it one year at a time.

Basically, for less than $10 a year on registration, it is always a positive investment.

I would just register for as long as I can so I won't have to worry about it at a later date.

it does help a bit. But other factors like links and on page SEO matter more.

every detail matters. throw-away domains are usually bough for one year so it's not a good idea to be the same as them. age of the domain matters much more, but sometimes even a 0.5% improvement (let's say you get it for later expiration day) helps.

Well, it would be more important that the old domain has old backlinks, too. That's it what makes an old domain strong.
I prefer registering new keyword domains. ;)

Agree keyword in the domain name is FAR more important than age.. You do see minor improvents for 6 months with a new domain even with no back links . The number of years before it expires is even less some domain vendors only allow 1 years and tehy arent going to penalize big companies many of which i have checked expire yearly.

It mattered in the late 90's, because there wasn't much other information to gather about a site. There were companies that would sell 50 year registrations because of this. It does not matter for modern search engines.
