if the backlinks are related to niche then it wont affect ranking.

Backlinks from relevant niche will be more effective and also boost your site than from unrelevant niche sites. And also those un related niche will hurt you soon whether it gets good outcomes now but it hurt your site soon

It doesn't hurt the rankings if the website has high DA values.
For example - Linkedin pulse, medium, slideshare, Folkd, scoop are common websites.

posting in those doesn't hurt your rankings.
It depends on the website you choose.

As long as the website has great metrics and its not spammy, then its ok. This has been my observation about backlinks. Although lots of people do not recommend that. But i personally recommend links from sites with great metrics for link building.
Although, first priority should be to get links from a relevant website but if that is not possible then a link from a non relevant website which is trusted by google is still good and can help in rank improvement.
