Will it hurt to copy and paste some articles from other forums/websites/blogs in my niche onto my forum?

I need to fill my forum full of posts and I was thinking about filling it with some content like other articles from other sites.

Would it be worth it to have unique articles made to just post on the forums? Would it hurt me if I were to just copy and paste over some content?

Would really appreciate any help with these questions.

Yes it may take days - weeks or months but it will be the death of your forum
 
You are best to provide content that is unique and set your site above the rest. Give your visitors a reason to come back, don't just provide things they can get elsewhere,or they will go elsewhere

Google panda is on its way to target sites with duplicate content. Beware of that dude.

depends on what your purpose with your forum. If it's only for filling the forum, the only thing that hurt is your fingers :D
 
Yes becuase it is consider as duplicate content and now a days search engines become very strict towards duplicate content.
 
I just had an issue with this where a blog owner copied an article directly from my blog. It's no fun and I ended up contacting him to take it down, next step would have been a DMCA request with google.

People will find you sooner or later and if enough complain you will get penalized heavily.

If anything writing summaries or feedback to a post is a better idea, if you provide a link to the original article I doubt you will get any complaints.
 
If google has indexed the original article, it might devalue the page with duplicate content. Some sites have seen penalties after the Google Panda update, and were able to recover after removing 'low quality' content. I recommend writing original content if you can. You could use the ideas in the existing articles and completely rewrite them, if the topic is what you want to cover. Then, run it through copyscape and see if it passes.
 
you can copy it but just make sure u include a trackback to the original source. i never do typical co-paste stuff, not because i'm afraid of big g's hammar or something but it's just not me

but they do link back to the original article.

i thought this was legal under fair use / press freedom or something like that ?

would like to know as im doing something similar ?

i am copying and pasting articles about a few popular artists onto my blog , i always link back at the end of the article to the original post...

my question is , will this still get me in trouble ?

A lot of the top hip hop blogs do this , any event in that scene gets repeated on hundreds of smaller blogs as well, same for the dance / dubstep blogs , i see a lot of repeated content on a regular basis.

all feedback is helpful please.

Plus many news media sites use attribution inserts on a daily basis

However as much attribution text as 65% - 75% of the content seems a little on the high side!
 
there is nothing like duplicate content penality as i think its just an hype created by so called rewriter gurus and content developer..to reduce competition
As all news site have similiar news on there site..if its fact based site..

This is a good point , i always read the same article on many different news & blog sites
 
it wont hurt but it wont benefit either so i would say do it if you have time ,

This is the type of thinking that will get you ahead of the curve. And, it is always best to link to the original article source just like most news sites do.
 
I don't think you will get any kind of problem for using the copied contents. but you will never the the good rank and will never get any kind of Google PR.
