Just saw UK politician Jacqui Smith on Sky News banging on about her campaign to censor online porn in the UK. Im against censorship as a whole, and I find this to be another example of the nanny state in Britain trying to control our basic urges once again. The whole hypocrisy of the situation actually makes me sick as I do genuinly worry about this happening, I wish to ask the bright minds of BHW what you guys think of this and whether or not you think this may ever be a possibility in future? looking forward to hearing your responses!

Lol Everyone can use proxies or DL from torrent or so ...

Nice way to spend few million of tax money per year for nothing...

I wonder where the fuck these stupid bitches always pop up.

I would definitely like some of the crazy fetish nonsense to be censored. oh and incest too. I mean, mom and son? ewwwwwwwww

society would be full of demented minds watching demented crap like that...

but then...it'll never happen. people will always find a way around. And it is not as if these politicians really want to do something...it's all a gimmick for some brownie points...

I dont watch disgusting shit... but besides snuff and cp everyone should be allowed to watch whatever they want

That's one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard, I don't want some random woman in the government imposing her moral standards upon me.

There would probably be widespread riots if the plan went into effect :p

Google would be pissed, just look up "porn" on their keyword tool.

277,000,000 searches a month.

Hey Randi. Are they planning to censor all forms of sex except straight?

Why is sex always such a big issue? And why is it that only ugly people have an issue with it? I've never experienced anything better than that any anyone that is against it is a frigid stiff.

Anyway, nothing can really be banned so it's just talk, talk, talk as usual. Oh, and populismus too as there is more jealousy in the world than anything else.

its not about fighting against pornsite its to establish a possibility to censor the web under the name of porn fighting. In other countries in the EU they do it to fight pedofiles which is a joke as blocking a www is not helping to fight against pedofiles

It's not really possible to prohibit or ban anything.

People will find ways of getting or providing what they want.

she probably has a video from her younger years she's scared of being leaked out :o

I'd like to hear how they'd propose such a censorship..
and who'd be paying for it..

We would be paying for it, as usual :)
And the fact that it won't work will mean our money will be wasted, again as usual. Nothing ever changes.

they are looking at introducing .xxx domains within the next few years, eg: kittens.xxx

porn sites will need to be registered on a xxx domain. companies/schools/homes will be able to easily block xxx sites

not sure how it would work with who gets what domains, and how it will affect your ranking in go0gle for an established domain/site, but its probably a good thing grouping all the porn together. much easier to find ;)

I hate how much politicians and legislators try to get involved in controlling the internet when most of them barely have a clue about how any of the technology actually works.

They almost always come up with what seems like great ideas to the masses (who also for the most part don't have a clue how things really work) and create legislation that's at best faulty and unenforceable. The end result is usually laws that they end up using in situations it was never intended for and the actual intended targets are still out of reach.

As far as porn is concerned the .xxx tld is probably the best idea of any even though it won't completely work in the way they want it to. There'll alway be new porn added on any tld, but if there was a clear cut "you have to use this tld" then registrars and hosting companies could deal with it themselves whenever they get a report.

Part of the problem though is where do you draw the line. Some jurisdictions consider a girl in a bikini to be pornographic, other places just a nipple showing is enough to be porn, for the vast majority those type images are totally acceptable. It would be stupid for "fine arts" collections to be using a .xxx tld, but the odds are very high they would get complaints from some idiots if they weren't.
