I recently ranked a web tool using great links, and amazing user experience by making it completely free to use. Traffic is now pouring in, but i want to stick with the plan of converting the site into a saas as there is a market for it but i’m afraid now i’ll lose ranks due to bounce rate etc.

What are your guys thoughts?

If the current content on the website and the niche/industry of the SaaS are the same, I'll recommend you build the SaaS but maintain those pages that are ranking. You could then use the ranking pages as a source of users/traffic for the SaaS.

This all depends on how the site is currently structured, but whatever you do, don't completely remove the pages that are ranking on Google, ensure they're always accessible.

The best approach is to keep offering a solid free version of your tool while gradually adding paid features. This way, you can start earning from your site without suddenly losing users or risking your current search rankings.

As a newbie, I’d also be worried about losing the traction once switching to SaaS. do you think adding a freemium option first could help keep rankings stable while still testing conversions?

You’ve done great by building traffic with free access and solid UX. Switching to SaaS can be effective, but don’t lock everything behind a paywall too quickly. Keeping some features free helps maintain trust and rankings. Balance user value with monetization, and you can grow both traffic and revenue.
