Will Chatgpt new search feature kill Google ?

They make 2630 Crore (1 Crore = 10 million) USD in a quarter as net income. So it is 10,000 Cr USD in a year. Such a company cannot be killed just like that. They will probably come up with something better and retain their position (Or rather monopoly in the search market). But I would very much like to see them lose some market share for sure.

And I am yet to hear good things about GPT search or whatever that is called. Though I did come across a guide by Rand Fishkin regarding how to get featured in LLM answers on SparkToro.
 
No, although GPT chat is new and attracts many people, Google has dominated the world market for a very long time. Google's position is simply irreversible, so you can rest assured to use GG
 
Reputation is king, as @Adshine pointed out. And as Deleted member 1603965 said, they'll likely adapt to any service which may contain some kind of edge over them.

But that assumes it even does. It's MUCH more likely that these two services will be looked at differently, anyways. GPT search is more of like an immersive or specific way to experience an answer your question. And Google is a much more vague way to do so. Like when someone uses Google, they're wanting a level of ambiguity so that they can open their options to a wide array of choices. When someone uses GPT search, they're putting themselves more in a box. Which can be useful, of course. But it IS a different kind of search.
 
Shifting a large user base from traditional searching behaviour to AI based search will take years. IMHO.
 
It will definitely loose some market share.

It seems searchgpt would be a game changer in the search industry. And we the SEOs need to learn a lot to adopt.

google will lose some market share, but I believe it will be limited. it's not easy to change people's search engine habits
 
OpenAI is going to emerge as the winner of the AI race.
 
I do not either think that chatgpt will kill Google. Google is a strong competitor, and they are probably already creating something new
 
I don’t think it will completely kill Google, but it could definitely change the way we search for info. ChatGPT’s search is great for quick answers and deeper context, but Google is still king for finding specific websites, research, and news. Maybe they’ll coexist, or we’ll see Google evolve to stay ahead
 
I doubt it. I had to switch back to google. Their search results are too simple and the page loads far too slow to be reasonable.
 
Can we talk about how you can't choose from a list of options? Unless I'm using it wrongly, it just generates answers instead of providing a page full of links. That's a fundamentally different concept.

We've all heard it. Will it happen? Maybe kill some market share, but it (GOOGLE) will still have an large audience. After all people still use that crap default search engine on a lot of PCs, you know the one, BINGo!
 
I don't know, but you have to imagine google is sweating. Even without this new search feature, I'm certain they've lost a decent amount of traffic just by people preferring to ask ChatGPT general info questions rather than typing them into Google.

That's no different than a pump and dump, though. It may distract from a more popular thing for a short time, but it's mainly a gimmick. Unless they can expand it so that the features are comparable, I don't see this as being more than just a temporary gig.
 
Everything has an end. Sooner or later, they will fall... They have to, as this kind of monopoly is incredibly unfair. However, I don’t expect any changes in the short term.

I think that right now OpenAI is pretty happy just to steal even the general info questions, just getting people accustomed to opening the chatGPT app rather than firing up Google is a big achievement for them

Today, most people are using GPT with queries like "summarize world war 2" or "explain daylight savings time" since that's where their tool really shines. At some point, they anticipate the tech will evolve to give relevant answers to questions like "Thai restaurants near me" (with live review updates) and "trouble shoot error 549329 Sony TV" with links to forum posts, and other types of queries that Google is far superior in answering today.

I do agree that Google will also adapt to try and stay ahead, but I think this might be the biggest threat they've had maybe since their creation (and that's good for us, Google SHOULDN'T have such a comical monopoly over the search market).
