Will changing my URL affect my backlinks?

I have a site with all dates on it and I want to remove the dates. If I choose to remove the dates, will it affect any of my backlinks or rankings? Let’s say my old links were shared before, will it redirect? I don’t want people to think that my articles are outdated which is why I want to remove them.

You can research 301 redirect. I guess it solves your problem.

If you use platform like wordpress, the permalink will automatically 301 redirect for you when you change the url structure. So you should be fine as long as they are using 301 redirect

When it comes to rankings, Google doesn't determine the age of the post. As long as your site is indexed, removing dates shouldn't affect your ranking. Dates are more from the reader's standpoint. However, it's still advisable to update your blog regularly for your viewers. Also, make sure you don't compromise keyword optimization.

While you can do a 301, keep in mind that sometimes the search engine and the spiders are really lazy, and you will need to wait for them to update those info to your new URL, thus, it could be a few weeks, or a few months, that you will see a huge fluctuation on your site, which will definitely affect your revenue in the process. So you will need to expect getting deindexed and all sort of those mumbo jumbo while getting those updated.

As others have mentioned, a permanent redirect will work. You will see a temporary drop in ranking though but it will return. Google will drop the old URL once it detects the URL is a redirect. It may take a few days for it to settle back down to normal.
