Will changing my theme affect my rankings?

Hello guys. I am a little new to SEO.

My site is a little then I remembered that I had purchased click bump a long time ago and it is still active till now. I am currently using wp clear video theme and do not like it because it is really slow.

If I change my theme from wp clear video to click bump. Will it affect my rankings?

I'm not an expert or anything.. I noticed that you said your site loads slow. I know that changing your theme to a fast loading one will rank better. So I say changing your theme will effect rankings.

Speed and compliance with XHTML and other little issues can play a small role in rankings.
No real way of knowing till you try.

I doubt it would have much of an impact, but from what I know faster loading times can sometimes lead to a better ranking.

ClickBump themes tend to run fast right out of the box and Scott does a good job making sure that nothing in his themes will impede your ranking well. You might even improve your rankings.

I just changed the design of 3 of my sites (lead capture pages) each of them were #1, and I was expecting to see a drop at least temporarily, but it never happened!
I was careful to make the page 'look the same' in terms of header, tags (H1 H2 etc) and even padded it out at the bottom with a little more relevant content. I'm not sure if any of this 'did the trick' but, I certainly didn't lose rankings.

Still you having fear of changing the theme.

kindly reduce the size of your image's and video's in current themes
ie. change the image into web format in low pixel size with same quality using photoshop or other online converter at the same time change your video into any other format without reducing the quality of low size.

Yes it will as beyond looking at title and desc tags., Google is constantly is looking at the header/footer, etc., changes.
You should also note that Google gives a hash value for every graphic on your site - so they are clearly aware when changes are made.

Am not very much aware of this. But, I guess if your new theme has better coding as well as more quality than the older theme.

Just changing my seo plugin affected my ratings before. I would be careful, if you are switching, switch to something better for SEO.

Yes, changing your theme will almost certainly affect your rankings, depending on a few things. If your new theme has a different link structure (links changed from left column to right column, new tag cloud added, adds more links or less links) that will greatly change your rankings.

Links in content are more important. Linking from one page of your site to another page (internal linking) is important. If you switch your links from right column (after content) to left column (before content), Google only considers your first link on every page ... if you just swapped your awesome in-content links with crappy navigational links to the same pages ... not good.

Tag clouds usually screw a website up by injecting way too many keywords on pages and making them all receive over-optimization penalties.

Not to mention, if you change the internal link structure of a site like that, Google doesn't instantly know your new structure ... when Google senses your links are different it loves to start dancing your pages around and your rankings will become unstable for weeks as they recalculate your internal link structure.

But if the change is mainly graphics, with little or no changes in link structure -- you're probably safe.

Design and loading speed collectively affect the ranking of the site. I recommend you to use a responsive theme to see a better output.

Yes switching theme means switching the HTML that the crawlers see on the page but "affect" does not necessarily mean negative effect. I believe all the good designers these days do semantic HTML which is crawled better and gets better results in terms of SEO.
