Will backlicks die in 2016?

I think backlink already died. It is time to get direct traffic through social media and other SEO techniques.

Even if the backlinks die, which is not likely to happen, google will still have some algorithm for ranking sites that can be exploited.

Very mega gazillion unlikely to die off........................

There is no way backlinks will ever die. Google will just keep getting better at distinguishing fake from real ones and SEO pros will keep finding ways to make their backlinks look natural enough to help them rank. There is no way for Google to stop using backlinks as a major factor because links are a major part of the way the internet functions and if they ignore them, their search results will suffer. Despite the facts that backlinks are abusable, Google can't afford to lose them as an indicator. And whatever other indicators they decide to value more will also be abused. So it's always going to be struggle on both sides, but backlinks will never die.

This is true.. LOL

i started my journey in web development in 2008, later i came to know about SEO and other stuff, and here is common thread in every big forum which i joined.

2009: seo will be dead..year passed nothing happened
2010: seo will be dead.. no its still alive'
2011: seo is dead: no i think it got kemo therapy
2012: seo will be dead: thread poster got banned
2013: it will be dead: i replied LOL
2014: seo is gone: f***k off
2015: seo is dead: ya and internet explorer is best browser
2016: no seo will work: and i am wasting my 5 min in typing this.

So if it is so easy to rank site depending on the social media, you pay 300$ for a few 1000 of web share, web like and done... Instead of building and researching KW.
Linkbuilding can't die because is related to keywords. Keywords are related to the publishers using AdWords and paying money to google. How can you target your audience let say for car rent where stupid girls who mainly like pets but they like also fancy cars and clicked on the like button of your car web page. Can you engage those stupid poor girls to buy a car - no. Did you get my logic ?

Before you assume rank brain makes back links redundant, do u know what it does and how it works?

its basically a machine learning algo that can understand more semantics that are relevant to an actual keyword search query. It use data it pulls from backlinks as part of it's process.

So, essentially spun content will be useless because rank brain is able to read and understand any context, and backlinks will have a reduced position as far as it being a ranking factor goes. But rankbrain relies on backlinks and social metrics as well as ctr , so backlinks are still important. its just that now you will need user metrics and social signals to work with your backlinking strategies

backlinks never die in terms of SEO. And backlicks, too, in terms of fetishism

For some forms of marketing, backlinks & seo are dead. You can profit without ever giving one second of thought to how many keyword links you have or where they're coming from. Maybe one day in the future that will be all or most of marketing, but not quite yet.

The important thing to note is that even if backlinks & seo die, they will just be replaced by something else that we'll need to study, work on, and argue over on forums.

AIDS will probably be cured before backlinks totally die as a relevant SERP factor.

Will backlinks die - Only Google can tell that, however it is still existing and i have been hearing this question since 2006
Will backlicks die - backlick die licking what :D

Think about it this way.

Googles machine is as thick as 2 short planks.

They try to kid you its all about content, but how can it be?

Imagine you and me sit down with 100 books on a subject we know nothing about, and we're going to read them all and rank them in importance - suppose it's quantum physics, or how to smoke kippers, or anything else.

Unless we're experts in that field we can't do it - Google is a machine - it doesn't even understand the basic words, so how can it do it instead of a human?

By this I mean it might know that blue or green, or red, or orange, or pink fit into a table or database called "colours" but it doesn't understand what "colour" means, it has never experienced it, and it's impossible to express it in words.

Then think about the nuances of the English (or any other language) - a simple inflection, whether spoken or inferred in writing can give a totally different meaning to even a single word, or to a sentence depending on where the inflection is - "I really believe in santa claus" (said in excitement by a kid"), "I really believe in santa claus" (said sarcastically by a grinch), etc.

A human can read between the lines and infer the meaning, a machine can't.

So how then can it be an expert in every conceivable subject or search string that you might type into its search box, and tell you which is the best answer for that search?

It simply can't it has to defer its decision to someone else, someone who IS an expert in that field.

So in quantum physics then maybe Stephen Hawking is the genius, and any other well known and recognised expert in that niche, so if he has linked from his website to yours saying "wow, this guy is good on string theory" then Google can be pretty sure that you are the man for string theory, and can rank you accordingly.

If it was really trying to rank you by reading what you have to say, understanding the words, and understanding the topic, then we'd all have more to worry about than rankings in Google, because Arnold Schwarzeneger would be ramming his mechanical hand up your butt hole as we speak.

Google knows Jack Shit except what we tell it to think and know, and even then it's only by comparing what (it perceives to be) expert A saying something about that topic and website B that's talking about it, etc.

it's so hugely flawed - maybe Stephen Hawking is only talking about you being mr string theory because yours is the only book he's read - if he'd read the other 99 then he might think yours is pants.

Or maybe your his big mate and so he's trying to help you to shift books.

Google is as dumb as a rock, always has been, always will be, and until it can think and understand for itself then links will never die, they are the very core and backbone of the whole numb machine, and like I say, the day that changes is the day you need to stop worrying about rankings and start worrying about living.

Which is maybe what we should all be doing in the first place.

Admit it, you've been hanging out at the Warrior Forum haven't you?
