I was playing with the new chat.openai.com/chat AI tool today. Gee it's good. My fear is that within 10 years half the content on the internet will be generated by bots.

No, AI will not kill the internet. While AI has the potential to impact significantly and transform many industries and aspects of our lives, it is unlikely to cause the internet to cease functioning.
The internet is a global network of connected computer networks that enables the transmission of data and information between devices. It is a complex and decentralized system that is not controlled by any single entity or technology. Conversely, AI is a field of computer science and engineering that focuses on developing intelligent systems and algorithms that can learn from and make decisions based on data.
While AI may be integrated into many aspects of the internet and its technologies, such as search engines and social media platforms, it cannot wholly replace or destroy the internet itself. The internet will continue to evolve and adapt to new technologies and innovations, including AI, but it is not at risk of being killed by AI.
