On average if a Wikipedia article ranks #1 for your targeted search term how hard is it to take the top spot. Assume this wiki is for a famous person

It depends on what is the wikipedia article Page Rank and the number of backlinks. Paris Hilton's wikipedia page has a PR 6 and 6000 backlinks; while Mena Suvari's wikipedia has PR 5 and 400 backlinks.

First try to get to position #2 for that famous person. By the time you get there, you should be able to rinse and repeat your methods.
