I have a graph that would really add value to a Wikipedia page.
1.Is there a way that I can get a backlink using that graph?
2. Will it help in SEO?

What is the method? I cannot figure it out.

Do I need to upload it to Wikimedia commons first?

Publish it on your webpage and then try getting a link from wiki to that page, that ways you get traffic and backlinks

I think it should help, at least by putting your graph on top of image searches.

Its no-follow but google will consider it. no-follow and do-follow backlinks make sense when websites do it correctly, Wikipedia tag every link as no-follow, The concept of no-follow and do-follow was to determind bad vs good links, Wikipedia literally destroyed the concept by tagging everything as no-follow. Therefor Google doesnt care about the tag on Wikipedia and do its own job

You can place your link in the Notes section on the bottom of Wiki article. In this case that will indicate the source of information where grahp/pic/text was taken from.

it doesn't matter that much if the backlinks from strong sources are nofollow since Google uses them as a hint - hence those links definitely have at least some value. Plus, Wikipedia is a trusted source, so you might get a decent traffic from there as well
