Has anyone tried using wikilinks as a 3rd tier in a link pyramid? What were the results?

I'm thinking of trying this schema

    money site <- 10 web 2.0 <- 1000 wikis to the 2.0s

    That's what I did.

    One web 2.0,
    3 keywords,
1000 wikis pointing to the web 2.0

Too early for the results though. I'll post the results in a few weeks.

One thing I forgot to ask - do you build DIFFERENT web 2.0's for different websites or you use the SAME 2.0's for different websites.

I have tested exactly this some time ago, at 3 different domains and about 12 keywords in total. I sent about 1000 wiki links total to 20 web 2.0 that were tier 1. (So in average one web 2.0 received 50 links).

Links were from all types of Wikis - Wika, MediaWiki, Macos wiki, wakka...
    The results - DISAPPOINTING.

I do not recommend this strategy, similarly to not recommending using wiki's at all. However, you can do your own test and maybe surprise me so I finally will see something positive about these wikis...

How do you recommend blasting the 2.0's then?

And do you link wikis directly to your money site?

    Question 1: Articles or SB
Question 2: Yes, I tested this a lot and I will call it time and money wasted...

Why wouldn't they work? I built wiki links to lower tiers and to money sites directly. I just don't bother spamming money sites. I only build d0follow wiki links to money sites and in a small number compared to how many links the money site already has. So I wouldnt' build 2000 links overnight to a fresh site, but I would to a site that already has 10000 links.

Well with just wiki links you won't go far. Especially if they are mostly nofollow. The way I do it is build some links to them. I don't really need them to pass a lot of juice, just get indexed to increase my IP diversity. Frankly there's a lot of stuff people think it doesn't work, which in fact works. For example submitting sites to link directories. Don't expect wonders but it is worth it for those support web 2.0 sites.

I've used them instead of the classic AMR blast to my first tier links. Did see a better improvement in the next 2-3 days on several runs.

For micro niche sites with relatively low competition, I've see serp movement in just few hours. Most of the new rankings stayed. The only difference is that I used one link to first tier (web.2) and a second one directly to main site.

    I do something kinda similar.

    Wiki --> Web2.0 --> Pumper Domain --> Money Site

    as well as

Wiki --> Pumper Domain --> Money Site

By pumper domain I mean a website I own that has a buncha unique articles about my niche and a few links to my money site and authority sites in my niche.

What would you suggest for an extremely competitive keywords. Does quantity play a big role here?

All wiki links are nofollow. I only use them directly to moneysite to add some link diversity, nothing else.

For one of my low competition keywords that was not in the top 300, I got to # 28 in a week. I didn't use anything else but this on the site before.

    money site <- 10 x web 2.0's <- 1000 wikis

It seems that whatever you do, unless it's a direct comment or profile blast to the money site, will rank a low competition kw.

Quantity ALWAYS plays a big role in a competitive keyword. Not unless you want to stick around temporarily.
