wifi geolocation

a city offers free wifi. as long as you are in that city you can connect, it's within a 5 mile radius.
if I am sitting somewhere and connecting to their wifi and using the internet, can they tell my exact location? or they know I am somewhere within that city, but not exactly where? is there any setting in my laptop that I need to turn off to make it impossible to know my exact location?
