Why You Should Read Google Patents

I bet all of you have heard of the famous google updates - penguin, panda etc.., and you probably think that there's not too much to it as you read about the 'patents' on countless SEO blogs written by 'experts' or from SEO gurus or other sources thinking you know how it works, I thought that as well, but after spending the past 2 days reading them FOR MYSELF there are surprisingly a TON of things that I learned.

I'm not going to make it easy for you and drop all the URLs to patents that I managed to find, but there are tens if not hundreds of them.

Those are especially useful if you're doing local SEO.

Welcome to the real world of SEO OP!
Patents are gold - both for those filing them and people trying to understand how those proprietary algorithms work. If you don't know the website already, seo by the sea will save you countless hours of reading patents especially for beginners. I do recommend everyone read the original patents themselves, but let's be honest, they are hard to read and purposefully made so.

I vaguely knew of such site, but now I'm reading it and it's pretty good. I like the fact that the patents are hard, if they were easy then everyone would be taking advantage of them. The first step is knowing that they exist and that they're valuable for SEOs, that's what this thread is about, the rest is up to you.
