Why Would a Competitor Link to My Site?

I have a site that has been smacked down into the 300 - 400's that last couple months so I haven't been paying much attention to it. Today I looked at the traffic stats and noticed that almost all the visits were coming from a blogspot blog targeting the same keywords. The blogspot is ranked #1 for the main keyword and sure enough there is a link to my site on the front page with longtail anchor text. What is the purpose of this?

My site was previously in a cycle of rank 1 or 3 for a week or two, dive down to the 300 - 400's for a few weeks then repeat. Did he maybe link to it when it was ranking well hoping to get a boost for linking to a high ranking related site? In some of my niches I'll link out to an authority site when it seems appropriate but it can't be the case here. My site is a crappy little two page site I basically threw up for testing a cpa offer. Any ideas why a competitor would do this?

Thanks!

Could be a mistake made by an automated tool or he just wants to balance his out bound link profile but as @tzampas so aptly put it who cares :)

My best guess is that he would have been using an automated tool and by some freak chance got his link put on your site. Now that is pure luck or what? Anyway enjoy the ride.

People link to relevant domains sometimes. Depends on the overall strategy. Plus, he linked you for a long tail, which does not cause him much harm.

Just consider it good karma and move along. :biggthump

People are so much in BH link building, that they forgot that sometimes, it happens, that someone actually likes the resource and wants to link back to it lol.

I find sometimes a hardlink on another site too when i see them around in the stats.

Just like Harrison said, you have fans hehe.

Enjoy :D

I think that yours is a good guess, and anyway, you should care, always be aware and on alert to pick up any interesting and useful techniques!
