so to start off this is my first attempt at making a webpage so I might be missing something stupid. a co worker has some web space where he host his photography and a forum. both are indexed in google and it is several years old. he let me have a slice on the site to play with. I made a page with a low comp keyword and did excellent on site seo yet it wont index on google. I used meta tags with my key words, 400 + words using my keyword and other relavent keywords. h1 tag with kw, h2 with relevant kw. several pictures with kw in name, eifx data with kw and relavent kws.

I waited a few days and it isnt in google. so I then added a link to redgage and waited a day and its still not there. I added it to a blogger post with unique content that is relavent to it and included the link. still not indexed. I posted the site on google+ and let it sit a few days still no good. I followed a few tips to get google to index that I found on bhw and other sites. again I waited and not indexed. any ideas?

Start pinging and bookmarking of it.. also try to add it in webmaster and your good to go.

Try this method : http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/560720-index-your-websites-0-second-tested-work-perfectly.html

Sometimes it just takes more time.. simply wait patiently, focus on your other work and you will find it indexed next few days..

I agree, in some cases it just needs some time to show up. I've had some that have indexed within a few days and others that have taken months. If you're confident your seo setup is good, then just wait and see. Don't over optimize either as I've seen it hasn't helped in any of my projects. In the future if you want a fast indexing blog for free, try blogger. I've had those show up in serps in a few days consistently.

Does the page have links pointing to it from the main pages of the site? If not, it might take some time to index as Google needs to get to that page internally form the main pages.

Also, if the site isn't very active and it hasn't has many pages built in a while, it will take a while.

An indexing service like Indexification or Lindexed might help it get indexed faster.
