Really curious about this, why will proxies become 'dead' after a while? And how will this happen?

because the real owners of the machines where public proxies are hosted find the breach in their security ...

take PRIVATE Proxies for web surfing,SEO etc those are best Public ips are just good for scraping etc purpose

private proxies will not die as long as they are kept alive on the
servers they run on. public proxies will switch a lot from alive to
dead and back again .
