Why use whitehat methods?

White hat is a loose term because doing "white hat" SEO would mean doing nothing at all. But the theory is if you build quality content that points to your website you have a smaller chance of getting slapped by googles next cute animal update. There are pros and cons to each but basically black hat will show results faster but your risk long term rankings and "white hat" will look much more natural to the almighty google.

Not all clients will allow whitehat.
With whitehat, you do not worry about having accounts shut down.

Who aproves threads with this kind of quality? It's like -Why buying smaller watermellons when big ones have more juice..
It's about your client's risk threshold. You've got to communicate clearly to the client the risks and different paths you can take with your SEO.
If you do a good enough job of communicating the risks then you allow the client to decide if they want to go straight white, gray, or to the dark realms.

If you want to market your site without looking like you're marketing your site, go white hat.

The ultimate goal of doing SEO is not just to get high ranking, but to maintain it for a long term and the most important aim is to increase traffic to the website.So you must focus on the risk of what you've done. Because when you do backlink, Whitehat is less dangerous and less likely to be affected by the algorithm update regularly.So whitehat will bring a longer term results for your sites. It seems more dangerous and very risk for Blackhat so you are easy get penanty by Google. Certainly I agree with someone that Blackhat show results faster! That is the reason for using whitehat while Blackhat methods are better.

I am complete favor on white hat SEO because if you will work fairly then your result will be stable for a long time otherwise black hat SEO technique also there to get fast result for some time.
I don't think anyone does all white hat. Mostly I believe google slaps junk or copied content, but if you think there is not a magic bullet you are wrong, there is, and it has little to do with backlinks. The secret is the algorithm of perfect phrasing. Writing your text or transcription in a certain way that makes the spiders love you. Not exactly co citation however. I will give you a hint, it has to do with beneficial word association with the keywords.

Backhat methods lay landmines that our site will drive over eventually. When it does, it is for all intents and purposes, dead.
Blackhat on your clients sites will get you sued.
This is not to say Blackhat does not have it's place. Just remember that you are building a bonfire that will burn someday, make your money while you can, and enjoy the fire when it crashes and burns. Most people get their site to making money then cry like babies when they tank. If you do blackhat, your site will eventually crash and burn.
Try not to listen to the Idiots that think White hat means do nothing but add quality content, they do not know what the fuck they are talking about.
For the record, many real SEO's do white hat. Google embraces copied content on a quality site.

The white hat true believers, who assert Google does not punish quality sites that avoid black hat, should do a wee bit more review of threads on this forum, to find hundreds of examples to the contrary. 100% WH sites are being hammered all over the place these days, that's just a fact. Google simply does not support using SEO as a long term business model for small IM sites, despite the rhetoric to the contrary. It wants people to eventually move from getting free organic traffic to paying for it through PPC or other advertising.
When Google sees a small site (especially a new one) with quality content, optimal keyword placement, etc, it looks unnatural because it is so optimized, as in designed for the search engines, and so it penalizes it. SEO = spam, as far as Google is now concerned. G now asserts it wants to see 'AND'---earned authority, naturalness, and diversity in its links/content, NOT search engine optimization tactics out of a site. Look at it like this. White hat is doing the right thing, building from ground up, going to college then getting a good job. Black hat is like pimping, drug dealing, easy money lol. You only going to get away with it for so long so it's short term. If you going do blackhat then at least do it till you can fund yourself to switch to white hat.

Only Google currently no longer defines white hat as "doing the right thing," if it ever did. It defines optimizing a site to rank in the search engines as artificial, aka unnatural, and will now likely DE-rank you for over-optimization. The false moral superiority WH is supposed to have over BH is now passe, as G treats either as web spam.
