Why use a pen name?

I know that... its just... if the people who are making it... use a pen name... I want to emulate them... But I want to first know why they are doing it. If its just for privacy purposes, then i wont use one... but if its for another reason... A reason that makes them money or something, I obviously want to reconsider

Writing under pseudonyms or "pen names" is a fine and honored tradition; many of the greatest names in literature were "invented," and many of today's bestselling authors use pseudonyms as well.

It could be for many reasons, maybe there are multiple people with their real name like John Smith or a more realistic common name like Ryan Cheng, google ryan cheng and you'll find thousands of people. It's all about preference, if you want to use your real name go for it.

Because then you can have multiple pen names for different niches because people would rather trust an author specializing in 1 niche rather than a jack-of-all trades.
1. A pen name might be more appealing/suitable for the right niche.
2. A pen name gives you the opportunity to go into multiple different niches(sub-niches!/styles too) and not seem like you are all over the place.
3. A pen name might make it harder for your spies to uncover your niches.
4. On kindle you can seem like you are colaboration with other authors and in fact you are only 1 person, working with different pens.
5. There are others that don't come to my mind at the moment
