its fairly simple, self hosted website is much easier to manage and has more advantage than a wordpress.org hosted website. You can do things that you are not able to do on wordpress.org

with own hosing you are free to mange your website as you want with wordpress.com not so much plus domain xxxxx.wordpress.com looks unprofessional to me.

If you want a domain like this example.wordpress.com then the hosting is free but if you want a website like example.com then you got to buy domain as well as hosting.

Everybody seems to be missing the real problem with wordpress.com. Which they don't alliw you to run your own ads like adsense or the like.

The free hosted wordpress has limitations, you can used it to make some web 2.0 but for website building it's a no go.

There is no restriction in the Self-hosted site, you can work with any design and work with your own domain. But in Wordpress, only the limited actions will be performed.

When you are using self hosting website.
You can able to control everything
You can work with any design
You can work with your own domain
It is easy to sell a self hosted site

And you can't able to do this in the free hosting.
And your domain names comes at the back of your hosting site example wordpress.xyz.com
you can't able to make the professional site in the wordpress domain. peoples won't like that too.

How many of you read terms and conditions before you click "accept"? With wordpress the problem is that you could be violating and they would shut down your website any minute. Plus, you have no control over your plug ins.

Wordpress.com is very limited. You cannot use plugins, and you cannot monetize it with ads = NO MONEY.
With wordpress.org, you will have a top-level domain = higher reputation.
-- More theme selection for free
-- Plugins for a better - looking website

If you're serious about blogging you should use Wordpress.org, but if you're just doing it for fun, .Com is okay.
