They are just not that interested.
Even when selling tangeable products you get lots of those emails, and most of the people you never hear from again or see a bid from, nothin... They are just basically snooping around for the best deal, and alot of impulse buying goes on, so they probably just move on to the next item/auction/seller.

Was this targeted?
Such as, were you selling a bottle of acai berry, then told them to get the free trial instead?
If not, then ebay traffic would just be way to untargeted for most types of things.
If it was, then as the above poster said, and also there may not be that many people checking out the question/answer part of your item.

I cannot see how people can miss the questions.
