Here's the idea why not to track down thousands of sites and check which site ranked for which keyword. Check all the factors from one page seo to off page seo. Check social signals, check what kind of backlinks they got and every other factor.

I have seen seomoz does this and i am sure many top underground seo gurus must be doing this.

Offcourse, it require huge investment. tracking down thousands of websites with atleast 100 different factors isnt easy. But, instead of posting again and again here and driving everybody mad, why not to check ourself?

I am sure, it require 100 members paying $100 per month. You definitely need seomajestic membership to get all the backlinks data. Then, you need scrapper which can scrape all kinds of data.

Why not check which Phd actually worked for google and bribe him to work for us :)

Lol, i know he might not even know the actual algorithm and might worked only on minor part of it. But, all i am saying if we all combine our mental, financial power, we can check what google algorithm really wants.

...and if we did... They could change it quicker than we can snap our fingers and all that money and time and effort is wasted.

Would be easier to just do a good SEO job.

What starts off as a great idea will be very hard to execute, believe me fragmented individual contributors will not work!

But hey you are on the right track and if you have a spare 100 million bucks to pay PhDs get it on!

Cuz it would take months to figure out the algorithm and 1 click for Google to update/change them.

You guys are saying like in one click they will change the whole algorithm. I dont agree tell me onpage optimization doesnt work today? It does work even today. Keywords in article also work even today, there are lot of factors that works today and those factors use to work 5 years back as well. However, the way they works has changed a bit.

I also agree there are constantly new updates added by google. Like facebook likes give you jump in serp, but thats just 5% of teh whole algorithm. They cant change the whole algorithm so easily. They invested millions in it.

Panda worked by using machine learning to find characteristics about a website and use these metrics to give a 'quality score'

There are 1000's of these metrics that make this up. They started by asking people what they thought of websites, if they would trust it, if they would let their kids use it, what they like about it and others.

I believe penguin is a cross between this quality score and the SEO metrics (like links + KW density and all that)

(Quality score) x ((onsite seo score) x (offsite seo score)) = Search engine position

Fantastic insight, thats what i am saying if we by anyway cross check this, that should be a great asset

Great idea and you should get started right away on your reverse engineering effort of Google!

If it was easy it would have been done a long time ago and since it's not you're not likely going to get a lot of traction among IMers that are trying to make a living. And even if you were successful Google would make changes and then you have to engage in a protracted cat and mouse game with a company that has nearly unlimited resources. There are advantages to being big!

Anti-spam team works for money, some individuals with passion are those who can bend the rules and open new ways. While there might be a few passionate guys in the anti-spam team, the joy to decipher algorithms I believe is greater on the other side - the unknown fellows.

Computers do what you tell them to do, this is way human chess player beat computer chess, because humans can place traps.

We can pace traps. People who breathe code can't get no sleep until will decipher new protection measures.

This sounds a terrific idea but executing it would be harder also you tracking such mastermind group won't be hard for Google so not sure how exactly will things workout.

seomoz already does this, they monitor everything, even social signals, and they show all correlation data to the public so why do you need to do this yourselves?

Mastermind group ? I don't think so that would help - since masterminds are already busy ranking and banking.

What's bothering you ? Rankin sites Post Penguin ? Well I just want to say one thing, "Replicate Others Success". Check out the top 3-5 sites in your niche go to ahrefs or any other link checker and then make links where they are making. I bet you will improve rankings. Do this from 10-20 sites and see your rankings move up since sites in the top are already ranking because of their backlinks profile - most of the time.

But don't do this thing now on the 2.0s that are ranking in the first page in most of the niches since they are ranking with only guestbooks, Spammy blog comment links etc.

If it were humanely possible to reverse engineer Google's algorithm than it would have been done already. There are so many factors, so many little nuances and filters. Not to mention how they probably use random generators just to keep things impossible to fully reverse engineer.

why you assume this hasnt been already done on earth? Do you think those going for ultra competitive terms like viagra or something doesnt know it?

I heard lately warren buffet patented his own seo blueprint. Why he will go for seo blueprint patent? Does you smell something different in this?

I am just talking about possibilities here.

Thats not a bad idea at all. But the best ones' are already doing it to keep them invisible. Small marketers can only hope.
