Why ODesk etc contractors are lazy bastards?

I have enough of this all guys saying that there is no work and when I am mssging guys that apply I find out that:

they just spam, and they give a shit about your job
they have only very basic Paint/Notepad skills
they are lazy and 10 hour job is taking 14 days for them
they never answer your questions directly

WTF happen with all cheap and good contractors?
What happen with times when you could pay $100 for website with cms?
If guy have rate of $2 an hour how much hours he need to complete the task?

I am really dissgusted after dealing with contractors for 2 last days trying to find right guy to do some website and scripting...

Depends who you are hiring. If you go for cheapass workers what do you expect ? Loads of people here and on other IM forums expect to hire people for way less than any humans time is worth, then wonder why the ******** they get crappy products that sometimes don't even ever turn up.

No, its not that - actually I have fairly simple thing to be done - some design, coding etc...
I have got only 3 offers - 2 of the guys just spam, one of them answer to my PM saying that the rate it is what he posted, but if I want job to be done completely I have to pay extra (thats ODesk BH???) and the 3rd guy cant even format properly pictures and all his websites looks like paint-made... I am missing some good, not to expensive contractors... Really...

hire someone in the US/CAN/UK/EU to do your image work and scripting.

problem solved. there is a good saying "you get what you pay for".

They charge 2K for easy job and you have no guarantees that job will be done properly...
I have tried EU market, but to many times I have problems...
Only thing that is working for me on Odesk right now is SEO.
I have seen huge changes in few weeks...

Yeah outsourcing is getting pretty ridiculous. Try hiring some US people. I hired a few 14 year olds once and they are pretty hard workers and actually give a shit. Only problem is they might not be as knowledgeable.

It seems pretty hard to find exactly what your looking for these days. Typical problems I encounter:

1. People bid on everything. They tell you that they can do what you're asking for. Once you hire them, they don't know what to do. And there excuse is "I'm a fast learner, you can teach me." Well wtf, the reason I hired you in the first place was so I didn't have to take the time to teach you, because you apparently knew it.

2. Paying by the hour. Some tasks are easier to pay by the hour, but this usually ends up getting out of hand. A simple task that takes 1-2 hours will take them 5 hours for whatever reason, so the price they're advertising is BS. I give them a task and soon find an invoice in my PayPal for 5 hours. Pretty ridiculous.

3. Communication barriers. Most of them have very very poor English skills, so even if the can do what I'm asking for, it's hard for them to understand what exactly I'm asking for. Last week I got so fed up that people had such trouble with a simple data entry project I just ended up paying someone $20/hr in the US to do it because I didn't want to deal with it anymore.

Try hiring more people from English fluent countries and don't hesitate to pay more for quality work. The people advertising cheap rates will more than likely let you down. Good luck

last week, i saw one post at odesk that he's willing to pay $5 for a platinum ezine account. seriously, $5? you need 10 articles approved to get that status. lol@

I have pretty good succes with filipinos on odesk.

Some tips:
- Tell them to put the word: Monkey in the job application. This will filter out spammers.
- When I'm looking for someone to spin an article I will ask them to spin a sentence and put it in the job application. This will filter out the people who aren't capable of doing the job.
- From the people who have put a spun sentence in the job application I pick the 5 best spun sentence and send them:
"Thank you for you interest. I have narrowed it down to 5 applicants. The thing is I need the article ASAP. So please let me know when you can be done with this article." And then just pick the fasted.
- Tell them your looking to hire someone full time for this function. This will greatly improve their performance.

Also I pay about $5 per hour for article writing + spinning, this gives me enough applicants to filter it down enough to find the good workers.

some people do bid lower tho however on there to get jobs os they can try to get logged horus and feed back scores. youu can limit the amount of hours that they can bill u aswell when u hire them. ive doen this to keep from getting billed to much for a simple job

I find you have to go through a lot of turkeys before you can find the diamonds. Once I do find them, I hold onto them - give them plenty of regular work, give them nice bonuses, etc. I costs more try to FIND cheap, good help than it does to pay a little extra to hold onto one once you find him/her.

I don't pay per hour, but most guys I hire get paid arpund $5 per hour. I pay $10 for an unique article + a spun version with: spun on sentence level ( 2 synonyms ), spun on word level ( minimum 3 synonyms ), images spun and Bold, underlined, Capital letters spun.

Well what I am doing on ODesk - I am hiring a guy saying that this is permanent job, but first I need to check his skills.
This way I have hard working guy for 1-2 months.

As soon as I see he is getting lazy - is time to close the project...

As someone who used to work on Freelancer and ODesk, seriously, people like this are why i quit.

I tell people my rate is $18-22/hr depending on the situation, 90% of people stop being interested. But yet people complain that paying some guy in a developing nation $2/hr they get crap.

Of the people that didn't balk at having to pay a fair U.S. wage, all of them have turned out to be very reliable buyers, and nearly all of them have returned for more work on various projects for over a year.

The most important thing I learned is, if someone is willing to haggle to you down to below $15/hr, just walk away. These are the people who will debate you on everything you do, want absurd status updates (I don't mind giving a daily update on smallish projects, but at $12/hr some people seriously expect an update every few hours on a week worth of work, which wouldn't be bad if they wanted to pay for the 15-20minutes to brief them on it).

That's my mini-rant.

It doesn't matter. It is best not to just stick with only Odesk alone. There are still afew other similar sites around.

LOL. Dude. Rep for the post. So true. I've worked with so many odeskers. At least 80% of them are lazy bastards. Or liars. God I can't stand when they lie...

They always have excuses; but the real problem is that they take on so much work because they get greedy and can never multi-task or manage work adequately....

I think that people on elance are better. At least my successes have been greater on elance than it has been on odesk. The Odesk interface is much better than the elance interface though.

Yeah and I've worked with so many thieving employer, the internet affiliate workers have always been the worst. I left cars to work closer with my son and see more liars and chumps online than at the dealership. Only difference is I can't grab a hold of anyone on the internet.

I work on Odesk, Elance and others as a start on the internet have been working 12hr days 7 days a week for 6 months now to get start (and Im not complaining.

For all you guys saying Odesk reps are lazy lets see a screen cap of your contracts. It doesn't give any personal information away so it won't harm you. But it will show where you're paying ridiculous rates to people overseas only because they live in that country.

Honestly for every lol and smart comment I wish I could have the chance to pop one of you "lazy bastards" in the mouth.
