OK,i have a website ranked pretty well on my keywords, like say #2 , in the past. but now it drop to #4 . i don't know why, some of them just has 1 index page, but still got better position than me.

what should i do????

I'd need a heck of alot more info. than that to even begin to tell you what's happened. Maybe it's just the G00gle dance or maybe your competitor SE0 optimized his site or got more backlinks, etc.

You should do:

1) Post more content.
2) Get more RELEVANT backlinks. (related to your niches)

p/s: If you can't get relevant then create one through web 2.0 blog platform and sites. You can build backlinks around that site.

maybe my website didn't seo optimized well, coz i don't know much about seo.

Thanks bijikpalir

the content must be original ,right? can i rewrite other people's content? i didn't show them to visitors, just to Google.

Laowu, PM if you want to, I can give you some SEO pointers.

But yes, one would have to see how you have it optimized. And I am sure you don't want to share you niche with everyone here.

In a nut shell,

So are you using HTML or WP? or what?

Make sure you have your meta, alt tags in line.. Make sure you are not keyword spamming Google. instead use the Google external keyword tool to find relevant LSI keywords to spread throughout the body of your pages.

For off page SEO, Use a tool like keyword Elite V2.0 to analyze your competition's seo efforts.

Then if it isn't allot, manually build up, and try not to use software on your main site you want to rank for. As if you are not skilled or knowledgeable enough to use restraint with such software, you could end up with the reverse of your desired results in a hurry.

Rather build satellite sites around your main, and use that kind of software on those. What ever good that comes to them through your learning curve will flow through to your main site.

On Page and Off page SEO are two different animals.

There can be multiple reasons. Saying you are pretty sure you have more than then because you purchased a service doesn't say much when you haven't checked and are just presuming they won't have more - who knows how much work they have been doing!

At the very minimum use link:www.yourwebsite.com in Yahoo search box to check out what backlinks you have, and then repeat for your competitors. There are better tools than this, but at least this is a free and easy method to get an inital idea. Remember to change the box to say "entire site" also.

You should spread your links to article directories, social network... bookmarking only will not help much

write articles, do profiles, bookmark, set up feeder blogs do all that and more until you get where you want to be. The trick to SEO is to never give up.

It could be a wide range of things as pointed out above, other things to consider aswell is Domain name age, Content Relevancy (and quality of), Clean Coding, etc.

First thing I would do is run your site through http://validator.w3.org/ & http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

Google prefers clean, easily readable code. If you're like me, you'll have quite a few small little errors that aren't too big of a pain to correct.

Also, use appropriate ALT tags on images as well. I was reading an interesting article on what SEO for Google IMAGE results. A individual claimed that through some simple techniques, he was gaining a lot of hits for a popular image search term. I'll see if I can dig that up or find that. Its not in my book marks!

All in all, a lower ranking this week could be a higher ranking next. And yet again a lower the following ;)
