Hey Whisker, I missed your statement, as I got cault up in that debate with Kickflip. I'll explain why I didn't go further with that quote.

In a nutshell, explaining what I've done specifically would leave me open to investigation from you guys and reveal my true identity, which, honestly, I would like to keep to myself.

If I told you what I've done specially in the industry, not only could you look it up, you could get my full name and past address (usually records have the names of writers and producers involved written in the credits, and you can look it up online.).

So essentially, its a privacy thing. I would like to remane anonymous on this forum. And I believe I've already revealed my knowledge of the industry and how it works with my replies above, and if you know anyone who does work in the industry (major label), be my guess to have him come here and read over what I wrote if you think I have no credibility.

I'll be more then happy to prove my knowledge against someone you know who actually works in the field. But thats as far as I will go for now.

P.S.- You can ask me any questions about what I've done in general, but I can't and won't go into specifics, and since that is truly the only way to verify what I'm saying is true about my specific experience, you guys would just have to go off of my knowledge and knowhow for now.

Doesn't matter. When you build an entire business on something illegal you better have a backup plan to disappear and never be found. I would have never done something like that on my name and risk even getting sued. The whole thing is simply a situation of poor planning.

First of all, coming from someone who's entire life has revolved around music, you have to understand how the industry actually works before trying to take on a venture such as megaupload tried to do.

You guys forget that not all artist write their own material. Some artist actually buy songs from A-List writers and also the producers who get payed for things like radio play and digital album sales.

Not all artists (and rightfully so) can write and produce their own material. So they then hire the services of PROFESSIONAL writers and producers, who not only charge and upfront fee, but also equally share the rights of publishing (which is money that comes from things such as radio play, TV synch licenses, and digital album sales as well as digital streams from Pandora and services like it).

You can't just give 90% of all recurring income directly to the artist like that, as it would trigger a TON of litigation from other songwriters and producers who depend on royalties from publishing and synch fees.

In other words, that system would FAIL VERY fast. Its not sustainable as an "industry" in and of itself, since only one side of that industry benefits from that model.

That dude has no clue how the industry is run or how its money is made.

Just wanted to enlighten you guys, as some of you are judging this as a conspiracy when that is far from the case.

That is an aspect of this issue that I think people are overlooking: the fact that the same corporate entities who control large parts of the entertainment industry also control large parts of the news.

Although, I would argue that while someone with a history of convicted fraud CAN change, unfortunately, KIM DOTCOM DIDN'T. Maybe he planned to, but copyright infringement is still fraud, right? I mean, the law is clear and he's obviously not an idiot. And as much as I would like to agree with you that your history should have no bearing on your present, the reality is that it does when you go to court because all officers of the court are trying to make a case either for or against you. So if you get arrested with such a ridiculous amount of evidence against you like this, coupled with your history, the prosecuting attorney and more importantly the judge will mark you as a serious offender and will literally refer to you as a "career criminal". I've seen it happen a dozen times.

But, I agree with you that his history really has nothing to do with this case. I also think it's worth considering Kim Dotcom's respect for entertainers.

For one thing, yes it's copyright infringement to share all the movies and music. But on another level, he helped bring thousands upon thousands of hours of entertainment and exposure of these movies and music to people who couldn't afford it and making the entertainers themselves bigger celebrities. If anyone is going to argue that filesharing didn't have anything to do with the explosion of the entertainment industry in the past 10 years, I urge you to look at the number of independent artists who've gotten exposure that they never would have had without it. Megabox would have been more than a game changer too. Around christmas time, I had a conversation with a friend of mine in the entertainment industry in NYC and he went on about how he and some of his friends were in touch with Will.i.am (big supporter of MegaUpload) and artists associated to him about helping to create a website that would work closely with and largely benefit from both MegaUpload and Megabox. Now, that energy may be severely diminished.

And so have my movie watching habits.
