I have a site that i am trying to build into authority for the last 30 days. Its linked to webmastertools.

i can see the no.of links pointing to my site as around 650 in the webmaster tools. But when i check it on google search using this query nothing comes up. Absolutely no results atall.

link:mywebsite.com

Why is it so ??? i was under the impression that they both are actually same. Arent they ??

have you checked it with link: or links: ? make sure that you are using links:domainname.com

i have used link:

not links

and i am pretty sure i am right. its link

Because Google's link tool sucks balls. I have sites with 10k plus links that show 5-10 links using Google. Use ahrefs or majesticseo instead.

If G doesn't show you the backlinks it doesn't mean they are not counted or crawled. G shows a little portion of the backlinks and generally when you make more then 1k or 2k links you will start seeing some when using that search query.
And you just have to ignore checking the backlinks with G, use majesticseo or ahrefs instead.
