Why isn't their fingerprint scanners for computers?

In the world of computers, there are 50 bazillion passwords with 50 bazillion 2fas attached.

Why has no one thought "lets centralize this into a finger print scanner"

Your finger print is not able to be replicated? And it is one password for everything. Nice quick and easy. Fingerprint scanner plugs in as USB.

Why has this not been invented yet? I am frustrated waiting for it.

this is your opportunity make one and make it in limited and try and sell it. This is seriously a good idea.
 
Modern Business Laptops have them. I think there are password managers that can utilize them for unlocking, so it already kind of works

Yes, my current Tseries lenovo also has Face Recognition for Windows Hello
 
even apple using face ID right now, perhaps it just needed integration just like a mobile app that we can sign using fingerprint or face ID

same reason why a company "pay by touch" never gained traction in early 2000 in san francisco. knew the founders. google "pay by touch failure"

Interesting, I googled it and found

  • Business experts say that the biggest reason why Pay by touch failed was its weak business model. Merchants and consumers were not convinced enough to use it on the grounds of security concerns & tiresome payment.

But I think consumers are more confident in fingerprint scanners than passwords these days, especially with the amount of hacks
 
The idealist approach is often hard to become adopted because loads of different companies set up these ideas but just because they say - look I have the perfect solution, everyone buy it from me - doesn't mean the entire industry will do so. There are lots of single sign-on platforms out there that make this point perfectly.

Macbooks use fingerprint data for the keychain, my old lenovo work laptop from my last jobs 15 years ago had it, worked a treat with firefox

Yepp I was gonna say this too.



Do remember though, your touch can be easily faked. You could also be beaten to death/or your fingers could be chopped off. I know about "capacitive" touch not working with a dead finger, but afaik; there are ways to go around that (or it could be totally bypassed in the hardware too sometimes... ). All in all, touch isn't as secure as a password hash, atleast not yet.
 
Anyone else think @Dark Sky is an illuminatus lizard man trying to slowly indoctrinate peaceful BHW members into believing that sharing our fingerprint every time we use the computer is a good thing?

Last week there was news finnish woman was kidnapped and beaten so that they could access phone. Lots of cases people are forced to get drunk etc. Just my 2/100.

you can buy it for $40 on amazon, but won't be used for most of the apps/softwares :)
simply because it's not decided to be implemented by big companies,
why? because most of the current laptops and desktops doesn't have a built-in one and convinsing majority of the customers to buy it just to secure their login details will be some kind of hard stuff
 
Would I not need to take the scanner everywhere to login? OR would it just come from a database? If its a DB then things like lastpass work already without the hardware cost.

That and every spring (in the UK) you get a news paper article along the lines of: "Stop eating and wanking by your computer you dirty bastard" or "Stop: Your computer can kill you with e. coli"

I don't know how much additional crap would be added to that fingerprint scanner.
