Don't get me wrong, Reddit can be fun and it's a great source of targeted traffic if you use it right/get lucky, but people on there are so negative. If you say something wrong, or make a mistake (and even if you don't sometimes), people will flame you hard. It's like a vortex of negativity on Reddit.

Why?

James :)

They don't like advertisements. They are quite good people to be bloody honest but they get triggered easily, yeah the community as a whole is toxic but that goes with every community out there

I that too be like social media platforms. People go on too these platforms too complain.

I guess that really depends on what sub you are in.

MANY of them are filled with edgy teens which is not necessarily a negative. If a sub is bred around negativity and toxic behavior that is the kind of people that will come out.

It is actually surprising how many subreddits will have their users turn on each other to spawn sub-subreddits on different sides of an already focused topic.

Reddit is a fun, but strange place for sure. They suffer heavily from the hive mentality, and can be overly grumpy just in general. It’s a bit too unpredictable for me when it comes to driving traffic.

deindividuation

Its internet.

Sometime in real life, someone may feel depressed, or get bully etc
So they tent to use internet as medium to release their stress or anger, like punching bag.

Just don't take it personal.

Do you think they will do the same in real life as what they did to you online?
Nope.

This video may help you.

In this day and age, it's extremely easy to be negative about stuff. Take Reddit for example, no one knows if I downvote your post. It might be nicely written, good content, but I just don't like something about your or your post and downvote it. This action could invoke the hivemind mentality as someone previously mentioned. Don't take it personally and try again with a different spin.

It all depens on which subreddit you are. I like the more wholesome ones where the vibe is mostly positive.

I think promoted ads will be the only way to go with reddit for us marketers and block commenting on your ads there.. and maybe we might profit from them.

Don't get me wrong guys, it doesn't get to me, I was just curious as to why it seems a lot more negative on there compared to any of the other social media platforms I've used.

lol I thought this forum would be violent and hostile. Even more so than reddit! Come to find out most people in here are friendly and nice. This is honestly the best forum on the web in my opinion.

But.... I still like reddit, a lot of good content on there more fore entertainment purposes tho

Try asking that question on Reddit!

I think all platforms have the same negativity, it's just that Reddit is huge and very anonymous so people don't hold back.

It’s the level of being anonymous mixed with almost nobody using the upvote/downvote properly that causes the chaos.

They get easily triggered. I don't know why but reddit specifically has a weird vibe to it.

It's probably the most clued up Social Network online, not much will get through them if at all. You have to be very clever on there.

agreed with @menacer. Though I don't know if it's just them being clued up or just overall paranoid about everything. The hive mentality is really strong for sure. Too often i've seen a product or service that the hive decided to hate against and ANYBODY who dared speak anything positive was a paid shill, or was an employee of that service/company.

In this sense I feel like Reddit is either almost unanimously with you, or unanimously against you. The trick is to be subtle and "honest" enough to win over favor, but not so ambitious that it makes them feel inferior or bad about themselves. They seem to GREATLY dislike when people proudly show off a service/product they're proud of and show flair of wanting greater things for themselves. They are ridiculously in love with the underdog and anyone who is suffering unfairly in the hive's mind.

This person is failing because LIFE IS JUST NOT FAIR (cue edgy teen tears). On that level Reddit is supportive and wholesome.

Reddit has always been a bit of a hive mind, so things they don't like (adverts etc etc) are treated harshly!

It's always worth remembering that most Reddit users are male, white, young and fairly liberal (although there are still some things they can be supprisingly ignorant of). Your milage on Reddit will always depend on how your account aligns with that demographic!
