Why is my engagement so poor?

    Hello,

I am currently running a 17K fitness account, and getting about 150-250 likes, ~10-20 comments per post. I used to get 500-800 likes, and that was at about 10K. Not sure what has happened, I make sure what I post is engaging and is at peak times of the day. I read that Instagram may've changed the way in which the explore section works? But still, my current followers should still be engaging?

The way I have built up a following is using Instagress. Mainly follow/unfollow people who are into fitness, liking and commenting. I have also bought some shoutouts which have proved to be pretty good - I'm developing a fitness app and have quite a few sign ups from the shoutouts.

Any idea what I could be doing wrong? And how I could encourage more engagement?
    Thanks

I have the same feeling with my acc. Facebook definitely keep doing things to decrease the engagement rate.

Yeah - what benefit is it to them if they do that?

Was about 500 likes per day, had the setting on slow. Even with it on slow, Instagram keep resetting my password. It's only the past couple of months that they picked up on it - so I've turned it off as I'm worried that they are going to ban my account

Maybe that is the reason for the decrease in the number of the likes. Since, when you were liking a lot of pictures, those people were liking your pictures back in return but now that you've stopped liking pictures, people don't like back either. This happens a lot of time! And since you're not following/unfollowing either, you're not getting any new active followers who would like your newly uploaded pictures.

I agree. Manually turn it up a notch likes-wise and let us know if your situation picks up. We should all be testing and sharing

I think Instagram changed a few algorithms. However I noticed that the engagement remains good for one hour and ended up being almost nonexistent the next few hours! That's the big change

What do you reckon is the absolute max you can have followliker running for the liking setting. Atm mine is 1000-1200 per day.

Facebook owns IG. We know what happened to FB.

IG is about to open their ads up.

    Do the math here people....

Haha, this section is going to crash and burn very soon.

I hope all these IG guys have diversified some of their income and are working on other methods.

That would make me extremely sad. Appears it's going that way though :/

I think IG will still be very viable money wise for a couple years to come. That being said, Pinterest + E-commerce are becoming the way to go

    It isn't pessimism at all.
It is what has happened on every platform and will continue to happen every single time.

Go through the forum, look at the MySpace section, look at the FB section 18 months ago.
Look at the SEO section when Penguin and Panda stuck.

People make a little money and think the good days are going to last forever.
    It never does.
And unfortunately huge numbers of people will lose their income over night, UNLESS they have planned and made provisions for it.

I just don't see how they would be able to do the same thing they did with facebook to instagram. It works on a following basis and you always see whom you follow unlike facebook where it masks activity.

What do you think the next network will be? I'm curious..

Hardly any of these platforms had a clear idea of monetisation when first developed.
They were sold for billions before the had any revenue.
All these platforms are valued in the Billions but aren't making real money (obviously that looks ridiculous when you look at the figures, but comparatively it is true)
Shareholders and Wall Street want to be placated, so it makes sense that they would open up to advertising eventually.

The problem for BH's is that no platform likes the idea of other people making money through their site unless you pay for the privilege.
Will Blackhatters still be able to make money? Of course but it will be tougher and the BH model may need to change.

What do you think the next network will be?
I have no idea, you are probably much younger than me, so will probably have a better idea. (I was going to say tsu just for a laugh, but realised it wasn't in the slightest way believable)

Whatever the next big network/platform is, it will definitely be mobile.

This app is an interesting alternative to Instagram that allows voice captions. They have nowhere near the funding that IG has

It is noteworthy however, that a couple guys I talk to (big ig players) are looking into it. From what I hear the app developers are good friends with/connected to the IG mega star Jay Alvarrez https://www.instagram.com/jayalvarrez/

Might make sense to get into it.. Idk though.. Could also invest a ton of time into building a large following on an app that never takes off
