Why is everyone so afraid of competition?

All I see all over this forum day in and day out is "that is too competitive"... "that is way too saturated".

Why is that a bad thing? There are big dollars in competitive niches.

Look around.. do you guys honestly think you can not "out SEO" your fellow blackhatter? Who knows, I feel like many of you do not even give it a try.

What do you guys think?

Being afraid of competition is one thing.
Choosing your battles wisely is another.

Competition is good and usually means there's money to be made in that niche but don't let that keep you from doing your research before you dive into a niche. If you're going after a keyword, chances are with a little more research and analysis you could find something better to target.

But then again, don't let that be an 'infinite loop' of finding easier to target keywords. Once you find a decent enough keyword, get to work. And "decent" is defined by your ability, money on hand, resources etc.

Personally, I'd start with a few low comp sites to get the cash flow going and invest that money in a more competitive, more lucrative niche.
 
Well of course if you are just starting out it is best to go for a niche that is achievable in a decent amount of time.

I just see a lot of people brush off niches without thinking twice because too many people do them, or it is "too hard".
 
Saturated niche's are indeed most profitable.

Big niches have lots of searches even for long tails (kw research never shows the no of exact searches to keep people guessing)
 
It is the human nature to go for highly searched keyword with low competition.
Minimum effort = High payout
And that is the reason some people back off when they see the competition is high and too much effort is needed to get ranked in 1st page.
 
Do you you want to know how hard the big niches are?

Online casino 200,000 very hard

Gambling keyword 250,000 medium - easy

I never go for online casino, I go for the Gambling keyword. The gambling keyword is real, you just have to look for it. The difficulty in the big niches is simply using your brain and looking. I have 4 - 5 big keywords in gambling 40k - 250,000k easy to medium. The work is not in ranking websites, it is in finding keywords. To me finding keywords in the gambling niche is very easy, because I wasted years of my life gambling. The reason why if you find something you love, IM comes natural

I dont think that everyone is so afraid of competition. I think sometimes its not possible to give more effort & not all have the equal skill to take part of a competition.

Well depends how old you are, what you did with your life and how long. If you spent the best years of your life wasting money, and doing nothing, I would call them a waste.

Imo if you have the money and knowledge you can go for a big niche, but if you are new and your budget is limited, you will have a hard time achieving anything.
I started with a website in a very competetive field and invested a lot until it finally makes a monthly revenue.
Now I started a few sideprojects in low competetive niches and they are bringing in profit after 1 month only
 
Love these open ended questions. They never come to a conclusion!! :confused:

Everyone on this forums lately seems to be all about SEO.

There are a HUGE amount of other traffic methods that are profitable, some even moreso than SEO.

And if you combine, say, ppc or social traffic with a high gravity niche (and some decent creatives), you can bank hard!

Agreed, although generally speaking this site IS dominantly based on SEO. Offline & ppc/social deserves more attention though.

Something's either too competitive or too expensive. If I can pump $XXXX's into my company and not flinch, nobody needs to be bitching about a measly $100.
 
Of course we are in IM, so to be afraid of competition is to admit defeat. BUT as bk071 said, you have to chose your battles wisely, and pick niches based on your resources and your aim - traditionally the idea of a niche site is to pick a low competition niche where you can build a quick site and rank easily, then repeat.

if you want to go for a higher competition niche, then fine, but that's a different ball game and requires a different strategy.
