Why is Coffee so popular?

I can definitely understand how coffee can become addicting or you become dependant on it, but I never quite understood how it's supposed to make you get in the mood to work. It sounds more like to me that coffee is a way to "mask" your dislike or dissatisfication for your job / life and get you in the mood to work instead of your natural passion and love for your work to be the reason why you'd get up and ready for work.

Sorry, I didn't mean everyone who drinks coffee regularly has an unhappy life and are just using coffee to mask it cuz it gets them in the mood to work. I know many people love their job and life and still drink coffee to get in the mood to work or focus better.

I meant that coffee as a stimulant seems to be something you wouldn't need if you were doing something that naturally stimulated you out of sheer love, joy, passion or excitement for what you are going to do that day. I remember when I was in a very happy place in my life and I'd get up in the morning and be super stoked and ready to work cuz I loved what I was doing and was looking forward to it so much without the aid of coffee while I saw everyone else around me struggle to get up for their work and relied on coffee to kind of give them that boost and energy to work (but it came naturally for me).

I mean, I loved my weekday work so much that I was sad on Friday afternoons cuz I wasn't going to "work" anymore and the weekend was coming, and then I'd get very excited on Sunday night because tomorrow was Monday and I'd be back to work! I was seriously like that for a few years and coffee was the last thing I'd ever need to keep me up or keep me working.

Because people can't live without it, I am also one of those people. The taste and smell, I need a coffee now.

Coffee gives you an instant boost for short time. So those who like to drink coffee drink it when they get bored/tired of what they do. Sometimes they start their working day with a coffee.
This becomes a habit. Once it is a habit, drinking coffee will act as a trigger to bring you to the right mood to work.

coffee is the second-most traded commodity after oil

It is a legal way to get a small boost from the caffeine. You cant just wake up and go to your office and line up some coke ;)

I love coffee.
Its 9.30 AM here in Albania. I just ordered the second cup of coffee.

The taste, smell ... i LOVE it !!!

It's a soft drug that's why bro *drinks a cup of coffee with sugar*

I'm not a regular coffee drinker myself. I can drink it if I want to, but I've never felt the desire or need to have it as badly as it seems the rest of the world does.

I don't really get it. Why is coffee so famous? What is it about coffee that has the world so addicted to it? Is it the sugar? Is it the caffeine? It's not like you can't get sugar in your drinks anywhere else. It's not hard to get caffeine in other drinks and products too.

So what is it about coffee? And why only coffee? Why hasn't there been any other discovery or invention of other drinks, other beans, other foods, that can be turned into a drink? I'm constantly baffled and puzzled by coffee and what the craze is about it.

When a new starbucks opens up, people flock to it like a religion. I don't get it!
I never add sugar to my coffee, it will destroy the tastes, and it’s like asking why people like so much spicy food, or why people love beer, it’s all about the same thing, the harsh taste grows on you and you start loving it.

btw, always prefer to drink espresso rather than black “mud” coffee.

I drink coffee sometimes... I prefer water, and eco drinks.

I also did not like the standard coffee. But one kind is my favourite coffee..the cowboy coffee. It's very smooth and has almost no bitterness.

your joking right for 20 hours per day .. ?

yeah. why not ;) I'm dedicated for my dreams. that's for a some time period. after the goals achieved I'm begin to enjoy my life with joy and fun. and it's really really soon. because im dedicated, motivated for success. :)

Do coffee drinkers here drink espressos or american-style coffee cups?

I have the feeling that a large part of Americans claim to love coffee but only drinks the diluted stuff like the ones you see in diners or Starbucks (which is cool too, but doesn't compare to an espresso). And do you put sugar / cream in it?

I don't want to come off as a coffee snob (which I am not), I'm just curious :)

Everybody has the way of taken their drinks. Some may prefer coffee but chocolate is better
