Now most of the interested users have already tried it. Those who need it will be glad to pay for it. Then why they still offer their services for free ? As a company, they should look to make maximum gains possible ? Or are they run with some not for profit organization ?

They need huge data to train their algorithm and that's why they need huge amount of users. Free version of it serves this purpose very well.

Also they want us to get used to it. Then they will play the game.

This is very common for any kind of sass business.

they have free and paid version , but there will be limited usability in free version like generating ai images limit and stuff in paid version there will be higher features ,first they ll make you get used to it and then it turns like necessity ull end up paying when you want more

Markets don't work like that. Neither does marketing.

With this rhetoric, you'd say why does Apple still advertise? Everyone who is interested has tried an iPhone.

Their freemiun model is the reason why they have so many customers in the first place.

They place limits (often arbitrary) and urge users to sign up and upgrade their accounts.

Users in the middle of a workflow end up upgrading, due to the disruption and because of the promise of better responses.

Also this,

I think they're in it for long term. Long shot, but may as well replace google in a few years or at least give them a tough competition.

They keep a free version to attract a wider user base and collect data for improving the AI. It’s like a freemium model, get people hooked on the free tier, then upsell them on premium features like GPT-4. Plus, offering free access helps maintain visibility and dominance in the AI space, which builds trust and long-term loyalty.

Don't forget free services attract a broader audience, increasing the likelihood of upselling premium features.

Do they use free chat gpt to train data? Or it's just the freemium model or both?
Free chatgpt use to be junk I have used it like few times. Maybe it improved.

I think both.

As free version has most users, certainly they won't miss this opportunity to take advantage of.

My own view.

They are already making gains.
We're in 2024 and data is Priceless, inestimable, immeasurable, or incalculable.
And they're earning a lot of data from free users too.

A completely paid route would make them loose on most of the data from free users.

They have a paid version which offers advanced features, so enjoy the free version while it lasts.

OpenAI is committed to creating AGI for the benefit of all humanity

And of course they have a paid subscription, which they make a lot of money from.

Because if they don't offer a free version, people will go to their competitors, such as Google's Gemini.
