    One word: MONEY

They have the money to hire the best and are usually ahead of the spammers and people using blackhat seo.

I think google is really famous and then they have a lot of funds thats why they dominate the search engines.

    A very good question rankingrockstar,

You type a keyword into a box and then find the most relevant document for the user. Such a straight forward service would seem more competitive however Google holds nearly 70% search market share.

The reason is not because they are famous however they have become famous for doing what they do so well and mainly for being innovative from the start. One of the reasons the company has been so successful is their approach to monetizing their free service. No other search engines were able to come up with the highly effective means of bidding for placement in SERP's. The company has also been able to adequately manage the competing needs of advertisers, their own interests and those of the users in respect to finding relevant content.

Check out these articles that talk about how Google has been able to corner the market on search advertising,

    Hope this answers your question,

Google is where the money is. It's primarily a search and advertising company, it has a larger market share than other search engines. We can spend our time searching for SEO techniques for other search engines and they may work, but they won't give us the same return as google.

It is more like people have got used to Google. Even if new search engines come with better features, they will not be able to replace Google.

Google has encouraged open source much and slowly started to dominate the internet and now has the whole of it, and started dictating terms to others..

Because they became popular and pretty good at what they do. Also, no other competitors really tried to compete. Yahoo was there but never really became good as a search engine. Google had the simple search engine with no ads until the search results came out. I think people just liked that and it kinda of stuck and sneaked up behind everyone.

Because they give the most relevant results, they are cool, and their brand is a powerhouse. I hate it as much as everyone else, yet I find myself always going back.

The day Apple comes out with their own search engine, I will certainly be cheating.

It was the clean and simple page with just a search box that drew me to google originally, they killed that with the auto search thing.
These days they are such a big brand I dont see how they can be toppled.
When people talk now they dont usually say "use a search engine" most now say "google it".
I dont think people will ever "bing it"

There are anecdotal counters to that idea. Some say that while the volume is lower, competition is also lower, and conversion rates are higher. I've seen several posts on this forum from people claiming that they make more money optimizing for Bing rather than Google.

IM & SEO is a constantly changing landscape. Nothing is static. And much of SEO is context-specific. What is absolutely true in one niche may be completely different in another.
