This is an idea - simply put Google as far as is known anyway doesn't have access to Twitter or Facebooks info on the backend so they may not know the difference from a post with 10 natural likes or retweets vs one that was bought from Fiver. Social may help in other ways such as conversions but it seems like socials effect on serps may be minimal at best.

This is not to say anything against social. Some websites may even have big traffic boosts with it but simply thay it isn't the same as links or on site content. If anyone has ideas about this feel free to chime in.

Nobody here can agree on if social links help ranking directly or not. So go figure.

I think we should stop worrying about whether social links play a big part in ranking.

Social links obviously wont harm your site in any way and we know there is plenty of traffic to be gained from them. That should be enough to motivate people into utilizing them, and if they play a role in ranking your site then that's a great bonus

I use google+ to rank several of my sites quickly. Just like video google properties matter. Check out the tool traffic fusion.

I like this idea. I've always seen quality social signals as having an indirect effect on SEO (people might link back to your content), so that's another plus.

I pretty firmly take the view that social signals are not a direct ranking factor.

HOWEVER; if you're trying to build and rank a site on the basis of it looking 'natural', then I would suggest that a site with 500 backlinks and not a single social mention or link does not 'look natural'. Therefore, social signals might help to 'look natural', which in turn might correlate to faster/better ranking.

There was studies where people blasted pages with tons of social signals and nothing happened. Social signals don't do much if anything.

There is no harm in getting social links and likes, as they can help you get direct traffic as well. Don't do everything for the sake of Google, diversify your reach.

It's a way to drive visitors and traffic to your site, also a way to let people know about news related to your company or website, Google doesn't seem to be using social signals like Facebook and Twitter when it comes to ranking. However, there are obviously still plenty of benefits. so I think they're great ways to build up your personal brand.
