Why does someone put links to my sites?

I checked a few of my old domains that weren't promoted by seo, the sites were with products and Google ads were set up on them! where are these links from? Why did someone put them, now I’ll check the sites from which there is a return line and I can’t find more than one of my links, but the software writes that they are!

Or maybe someone is evaluating links on your site before they use them on their own sites as an experiment. There could be a lot of reasons.
 
It's an old domain that I was using
so those backlinks are old
 
considering most of them in the screenshot are images links
Most likely, they are offloading their bandwidth to your site via image hotlinks.
 
these links are showing from cache, that is not on your website, but some tool can read it very well.
 
With the semrush tool you can see where they come from, a problem for all of us.

I checked my other site, which has not been working for half a year, but the number of links continues to grow, there are also all links to images, really people used pictures from my hosting to unload their hosting! Is it possible to somehow use this rating to promote a new project on this domain?

Depends on the site it is linked from
Reach out to them and ask for credits.
Let them know it's ok to use your stuff but credit back to you.

Alot of those links could be from random blog aggressors or wiki aggressors too which usually more or less are quite useless and harmless.
