Why does my PPC performance always "tank" on weekends?

Hi guys, I’ve noticed a weird pattern. From Monday to Thursday, my Google and FB ads are profitable (ROAS 2.5+). But as soon as Friday evening hits, my sales stop but my budget keeps burning.

I’m spending $200/day. On weekends, I get clicks but no conversions. Is it just 'window shoppers' or is it some kind of bot traffic that gets active on weekends?

Should I just pause my ads on Friday night or am I ruining the algorithm by doing that? Would love to know if you guys use any 'Day-parting' strategies.

It's mostly window shoppers—use day-parting to lower your bids by 50% on weekends rather than pausing, so you don't kill the algorithm's momentum.

This is very common. Weekend traffic usually has much lower buying intent (more browsing, less purchasing), and it’s rarely bot traffic. If your data clearly shows losses on weekends, pausing ads or reducing bids/spend from Friday night won’t ruin the algorithm—as long as you do it consistently.

The practice exists throughout society because people tend to receive unproductive visitors during their weekend work breaks.

Most of us just day-part or pause ads Friday night and turn them back on Monday. The algo won’t die it's better than bleeding budget on weekend junk traffic.

Totally normal, weekends often have lower buyer intent, so just reduce or pause spend on weekends using day-parting, it won’t break the algorithm.

This is actually more common than people think, so you’re not alone.

In most cases, weekend drops are behavioral, not bots. Users on weekends tend to browse more casually, especially on mobile, and are less likely to convert unless it’s an impulse-buy product. Monday–Thursday traffic is usually more intent-driven.

Before blaming bot traffic, check:
  • Device breakdown (weekends often skew heavily mobile)
  • Conversion lag (some weekend users convert on Monday)
  • Audience overlap or frequency fatigue by Friday
Pausing ads won’t “ruin” the algorithm, especially at a $200/day spend. What usually works better is day-parting or lowering budgets on weekends instead of a full pause. Another option is running weekends with retargeting only, since cold traffic tends to underperform during that time.

If your data consistently shows zero weekend conversions over a few weeks, trust it. Algorithms optimize for conversions—but they still need guardrails from us.

Test, don’t guess. Reduce weekend spend, monitor assisted conversions, and scale back up only if the data proves it’s worth it.

Totally normal, weekend traffic usually has lower buying intent, pausing or lowering bids on weekends won’t hurt the algo and day-parting works fine.

This is usually the case. I would suggest you to run your ads throughout the week. Just during the weekends lower your budget. So when on Monday you increase the budget it will not take much time to show clicks and impressions!
DO NOT PAUSE them it fucks up the algo! Happened with me multiple times then I found this hack!

Yeah, pause or lower spend on weekends—weekend traffic often converts worse, day-parting helps a lot.

This is classic weekend intent mismatch. Your audience may browse casually on weekends but only converts during work hours for your product. Use day parting to reduce bids/budget Friday PM to Sunday, but don't pause entirely - it disrupts learning. Analyze your conversion delay; a 1-day attribution window might hide Monday conversions from Saturday clicks.

Weekend traffic is low intent, just day-part and reduce spend, it won’t hurt the algo.

It's usually just "window shoppers" on mobile who have high intent but zero urgency until they're back at a desk on Monday.

Yeah weekends are usually low-converting traffic, sometimes just casual browsers; many pause or lower bids, day-parting helps keep ROAS up.

Totally normal, weekend traffic often converts worse since people browse more and buy less, many advertisers lower bids or pause during low-performing hours without hurting the algo.

ppl just window shop on weekends and buy during work hours, set up automated rules to lower your bids by 30% on sat/sun.

normal weekend window shoppers man, dont pause or you will mess up the algo for monday.

weekend traffic on Google and Facebook can be low buyer intent not bots, just test day parting and lower budget on fri-sun instead of full pause.

Weekend traffic usually has lower buying intent
people browse more than they buy, so try reducing bids or using day-parting instead of pausing ads.

This is likely human behavior, not bots. Pausing or lowering spend on weekends is a valid strategy and won’t “break” the algorithm; it will likely improve your efficiency. Treat your campaigns like a flexible system, not a 24/7 machine.
