Why does Instagram not let me transfer usernames from one account to another?

Hello all,

Recently I have changed usernames on some accounts and then tried to enter these usernames on another account so I can carry on this username on another account. However, I noticed it's no longer allowing these usernames that have been removed from the old account to be used at all. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Probably has a cool down period, preventing account swapping usernames

Yes, I had the same problem, there was no such thing in the past.

Gotcha, that makes sense...Just gotta be cautious about where usernames are stored now.
