why does everyone use Cloudflare??

Cloudflare’s Trustpilot reviews are rough, but people still use it (including me), as it’s reliable for speed, security like Ddos protection and free SSL. Most of the hate comes from small site owners who had issues with support....

Trustpilot isn’t a good measure for services like Cloudflare. Most reviews come from people who had a problem, while millions use it daily without issues.

People here recommend it because: Free plan gives SSL, CDN, and DDoS protection and Easy to set up and improves speed/security.
Correct and good answer.
TP is the place for complain. so, bad ratting

but people still use it (including me),
oh, I've noticed! Almost every site that I visit uses CF :D

as it’s reliable for speed, security like Ddos protection and free SSL.
yeah, it has its uses... but it's too complicated to use for someone like me, I remember that I've tried it a few years ago and - as a non-techy person - I got lost in its lingo and settings, so I quit using it that same day lol

Most of the hate comes from small site owners who had issues with support....
which - again - for a non-tech-savvy guy like myself this is a major problem since I'd be asking for support all the time...

But nevermind, I already found out about CF what I needed to know, so I don't see myself using it any time soon... unless forced by circumstances, of course (hacking, DDoS attacks, etc)...

Correct and good answer.

I think TP has its valid uses, when 1 or 2 people complain they might be wrong, but when 90% of them complain the problem is not with them :)

For anyone who's had experience with it from both ends, Trustpilot’s not really the best gauge for a service like Cloudflare. I'd bet that a vast majority of the low scores comes from end users (not site owners) hitting “this site is blocked” pages or misunderstanding what CF does. Most actual webmasters use it for CDN, DDoS protection, DNS management, and performance, which is unsurprisingly one of the best in slot. It's a lot less that Cloudflare’s bad, and more that the people reviewing it aren’t the same ones benefiting from it.

Plus, and in general, Trustpilot is a good rule of thumb, but take it with a healthy heaping of salt. Besides CF, there's a lot of excellent services that doesn't review brilliantly because users are only motivated to review when something’s wrong. Without incentive, if something works right, most people wouldn't care to review. It's still best to see how something works for you personally, if you can afford to.

It makes DNS management easier for me, especially for clients who bought a domain from a different provider and don't want to share access to the panel.
Also, if you ever come under a DDoS attack, in just one click, you will strengthen the firewall protection and at least mitigate the damage
btw. TP is useless for a long time

Never really liked them tbh. There's just an arrogance about them. Also, most people in their lifetimes will never see a "DDoS attack." So people who just blindly recommend them because "just in case," when have you ever been on the receiving end of a DDoS in the last 20 years?

Trustpilot’s mostly angry end users who don’t understand how CF works. Devs and site owners love it for DDoS protection, speed, and easy DNS setup — ratings don’t reflect the actual value.

Cloudflare as a service is pretty OK as far as CDNs go.

HOWEVER, and I suspect this is largely where their Trustpilot score comes from, thieves use the free accounts to hide stolen content behind. In a past life, there were individuals that would copy my client's entire website and I'd have to go send cease and desists, DMCA's or trademark violations (or sometimes all 3) to Cloudflare to try to get at these people. It always starts with "we're not the host or domain registrar and bear absolutely no responsibility to what our customer is doing." No, but your free product essentially allows them to hide in plain sight.

After I'd threaten to get the lawyer involved (and after I actually followed through a few times they stopped giving me the run around) I'd get what I need.

If I ever need to run another site where I have a use case for a CDN, I will use literally anyone besides Cloudflare on principal alone. See, it's been over a year since I've had to do this crap and I'm still getting pissed off about it. LOL

I was involved in one case where they helped a lot with in defense against a DDoS attack.
Although I am of the opinion that sometimes they themselves cause such attacks in order to direct clients to still pay for their service. But that's just speculation.

many companies do this, so it's not speculation. Antivirus companies, for example, are known for doing this sort of thing :)

good principle, I like it. Spiting big companies is one of my favorite hobbies too lately :p

they've touched one of your sensitive cords and it's hard to overcome...

this makes no sense. Why would people who benefit from something downvote it? I tend to agree with what other members said, which is that it's probably newbies or freebie seekers who downvote CF the most, because otherwise - from what I've gathered from this thread - CF does have its uses... heck, even BHW uses CF so something must be good about it :)

Anyway, thanks everyone for your insights, I think - if the mods want - they can lock this thread as its purpose had been served... or you can keep it open if you think that it can attract more valuable replies, I don't mind either way...

I mean, it's not the thieves downvoting it. It's all the people that have to deal with the thieves that hide behind the free product. The victims so to speak. Cloudflare really is a pain and the ass to deal with when it comes to copyright/trademark violations.

Yeah you have to pay like the monthly membership fee, which is where they get you if you want just 24 hour email response, then priority chat support is another package upgrade i think, lol i don't like that. If your a bit nooby like me anyway, and want someone to talk to on support, cloud flare is defaintly bad, it took me a couple of hours to find a setup setting, and get my domain working, and it was through claude i got my answer, NOT anything to do cloudflare, they only provided a very technical explaination if i remember of their options, and the one i wanted wasn't their "just leave default". Once claude explained things to me, i understood things more, and then @Diplomat confirmed to me that yes the reason my site was getting a loop redirection, was the same setting i had changed my cloudflare to once it was fixed.

He's the goto networking guru, lol dude, you need your own networking interface to your brain now, so when people have networking problems on bhw they can ping your telegram brain wifi itnerface! lol

The loop can happen when your SSL settings are wrong. By default, Cloudflare will send an HTTP request to your server, but if your server is configured to redirect HTTP to HTTPS, then it will cause an infinite loop.

So the easiest thing to do would be to set SSL mode to Strict. That way, Cloudflare will send an HTTPS request to your server, and it's all good.

It offers a lot of benefits for free like DDoS protection and faster load times. The low scores might be from web visitors who see a Cloudflare screen when there is a problem and not webmasters.

Trustpilot reviews often reflect end-user frustration (like DNS setup issues or account bans), not the actual performance. Cloudflare remains popular because it offers solid security, CDN speed, and uptime for free or low cost. Most SEO and dev users here value the technical benefits more than customer support that’s why it’s still widely used despite low public ratings.

Guys, I'm curious...

there's not a single day on BHW that someone doesn't recommend Cloudflare, but their Trustpilot score is 1.5 (ie. bad), so this tells me that either TP is not reliable (which - so far - I've heard anyone saying this), or CF is bad indeed, in which case why do you keep using it?

Can I get some insight into what you really like about this site that you keep making it money despite of the fact that everyone (that's not you :p ) keeps giving it bad scores?
Some stick with it for uptime and caching benefits others for ease of use but wondering what actually keeps it worth using despite poor ratings
