I'm in college and learning IM SEO when on free time. I watched some GSA tuts on YouTube and read GSA threads on BHW - found out most experienced SEOers insist to use GSA on VPS hosting. I really want to go with their suggestions but those VPS hosting monthly fees are pretty pricey and I couldn't afford it right now. What would be the big advantages if I'd run GSA on VPS???
Why do they recommend to use GSA on VPS?

High bandwidth usage, connection to many proxies and sites which risk IP blocks and worse, dedicated CPU and RAM, run the software 24/7.

You're overanalyzing the wrong part of what he said. Because even if you use GSA on your own computer, you can easily set it to use public proxies, that way your own IP address doesn't get banned.
The reason why so many people use GSA on a VPS is if you use GSA on your computer, you will NOT be able to do anything online. It will eat up all your bandwith. So pages will take like 5-10 seconds to load. You won't be able to watch videos. It will slaughter your internet connection. I use to use GSA on my computer but I lost my mind after 2 months and splurged for a VPS. Then a year later I got a dedicated server.
But basically, by using a VPS you can run GSA 24 hours day / 7 days / week without worrying about your internet connection always being slow as shit.
And when you have a server / vps that is dedicated SOLELY for GSA usage, and nothing else, you will get A LOT more links as well.

Now, I got it. It's time to ask my supervisor to spare me extra hours!
A VPS does not have to be expensive and you can take a look in the marketplace to find one to your liking.
Hope you first learn the system of SEO before you unleash automation tools. Remember that these shiny tools
are only as good as what you use them for. A bad strategy automated with a tool can equal tragedy lol...

VPS's are inexpensive in my opinion. If used right, you can put multiple tools on one (GSA, Scrapebox), and rank websites for keywords that you have done the research for. It is all about your technique, that means your link building strategy has to be critiqued, and leave no footprints.
That's the way I though before. I've big old desktop and if I add 1GB RAM, it could handle GSA and some. But as in BreaknBrix reply, he / she points out - running GSA or the likes on same internet connection (at home) will hit hard its bandwidth. It makes sense IMO. I don't want to hurt my little sister who is all-time-netflix-watcher.

I was running GSA SER for 25 minutes and my ISP blocked my internet connection for 2 fucking days due to websites reporting my IP for spamming. Never gonna do that again. Also, with VPS you just start it up and you're done. On computer, you work, use a lot of resources, sometimes you need reboot and all of that. VPS is just better for some of us, including me.

Were you not using proxies, or did you have too many connections at once? If you used proxies, were they transparent?
I really don't understand the people who don't use a VPS or VPN for their business. One of those things you learn by experience, I guess.
