I've seen some sites where they only have a few links or 0 links at all (Checked using ahrefs) but somehow the domain is PR5 or higher. How is this possible?

Could be a number of things. Keep in mind not all backlink checkers are accurate, up-to-date, etc. Although aherfs is great.. I am not too sure on this one. Would need further investigation.

Definitely not a redirect... and there's no way you can get PR5 without ahrefs spotting a single link.

Had the same question. Somebody on another forum gave an idea of it being fake. But how, I can't imagine.

Use ahref.com for checking links. There must be atleast 1 high PR site pointing to it(and that's enough for the PR).

Ahrefs can't find a single link or it finds a few links which are PR0

I'd imagine these guys just got some very high PR links, then removed it after the update.

Links could be recently removed. 301 redirect. New backlinks not crawled from link checker. USe Link assistant. It checks for links at the very moment
