Why do people still buy BTC?

Because it is the most trusted coin. Surely a new altcoins can give 10 times returns compared to BTC but the chances of getting scammed is also there.

How are you so sure that top 100 altcoins will give 5x to 10x ? There is also some chance that you invest in some coins and they turn out to be shot coin and you make a loss.
 
Because BTC is very much trusted while in case of altcoins, there can be scams as well.
 
I buy BTC because I understand why it works. I also know that I can inherit it to my girls and it will have (at least some sort of) value if I'm gone tomorrow or in 20 years.

Altcoins are a gamble, and I'm just not a gambler or want to start day trading.

I wouldn't have known the price of BTC if it weren't for the 38 threads opened here after it went over 50K.
 
Some people just buy Bitcoin, because they see that many people buy Bitcoin. They follow the crowd.

People buy it because " that is an easy 2.5X made within 6 months"
