Example:

''Wow, I bought BTC for $30k and now it's worth $75k''...cool, that's only a 2.5X

Any reasonably promising altcoin can do much more than that. Even reliable altcoins from the Top 100-300 will probably make 5X or 10X next months

Big companies and billionaire individuals make sense to buy BTC, it's safer and more promising in the long run...but average Joe Doe? Doesn't seem to make sense to me...except if you bought to hold for decades, but it's not the case for most people

Because most of altcoins are shit.
And all of them are linked to an external service or utility which makes its value.

Bitcoin is linked to nothing. It is a pure and genuine reserve of value. It's not owned by anyone. And if blockchain will keep being more used, it will keep increasing. But this is no true for the other altcoins.

I agree. In my opinion BTC is safer investment than alt coins BUT you are right, it won’t make good ROI unless you hold it for long term (5-10 years). Of course even then you could lose your investment.

On top of that, I personally feel like BTC is revolutionary in nature and it is comparable to Linux in its importance, so I see it like investing in a company that will be here for hundreds of years and one that has intrinsic value. Whereas alt coins could well be gone in 1 year, 2 years or 5 years - and yes you can make more on the short term but the risk is much higher.

Not to mention the first mover advantage, which BTC has.

They tell each other about it and just follow the crowd. It's like gold. They buy it because they heard it's good.

@IamScammer happy to see you back man, missed your posts :D

BTC is good if you are already rich, if you are broke as fuck, not a good idea, you won't be able to hold for the long run and probably sell after seeing a small profit as you would need the money for something else.

What do you think - what makes BTC better than let's say ETH?

Or for example, stablecoins which are safer in my opinion.

Perhaps you meant that blockchain is revolutionary, as I would think of that like that.
Well, BTC was the first successful one (after previous attempts of course, which I know there were many).

It does not have any one person or party in charge of it or set to benefit from it.

Everything about it is perfect in terms of its technical architecture, its characteristics that make it a sound money, the fact that there is a limited supply and really just the pure fact that someone came up with that concept and sure, there are plenty of copycats - but that just makes it even more clear how perfect BTC is, that so many want to replicate it (but all of those have incentives from the creators where BTC does not).

Who knows, maybe it’s just like VHS and Betamax but at the end of the day, BTC was and still is the front runner. Thats my opinion anyway but we’ll see how things pan out I suppose.

For the record though I do have some eth as well as a few other alt coins so it’s not like I’m against them, I just believe BTC is the king.

Alt coins can give higher returns but there is also risk that it can go to zero. That risk is reduced in bitcoin.

Knowing that unlike altcoins, it may have a steady increase over time vs a rapid increase that may or may not even come or even worse, a rug/scam.

If you only have 50 euros, you can only make 100 euros in the current bull run.
but there are enough people who have 1 million or more in BTC and then 2.5x is not bad at all.

In addition, most altcoins are shit and often disappear after a short time.

But if you know a coin that is much better than BTC, you are welcome to share it with us

Any FILTHY rich investor sells If he doubles his money. Even If he gains 20% on a stock he probably sell.

Thats why the filthy rich investor is filthy rich, and you are chasing a golden goose - because the filthy rich person has a better risk margin and has done this a long time :)

To buy any promising altcoin that is gonna give me 5-10x. It requires a research that most people don't wanna do. And just in case if they do that research even then now a days alt coin creators are so smart in showing that their shit coin really has a value that a layman won't be able to identify the shtcoin or a good alt coin.

What option do they have - Buy something that already has a market + a trust factor.
(ETH, BTC, SOL, BNB, Matic, XRP. )

I rallied the alt coin rally when SHIBA, DOGE wasn't a big thing. I did profited from all of them but now a days, I won't risk my money in investing the alt coin rally. Simply because the research takes time and alt coin creators are smart (they have evolved in the past these years). They idolize people like Sam Bankman-Fried. 80% of them are there to scam people. I can give you examples of good projects that are now just an exit scam. Are you willing to invest in an institution that you think can scam you anytime?

I Might be wrong but it is what it is. Just my opinion what I personally think as a layman (or your average joe).

Many altcoins achieve 10x, 100x even though they are completely useless.

There are many coins I haven't invested in because I saw they were complete crap, and yet they still made 10x.

So, research isn't everything.

What are the chances of identifying such an alt coin ? With BTC you will be sure that risk of loosing money is less. Even 100% gain is lot if you are not greedy and more practical.

Altcoins tempting? Maybe, but risky.. Don't ditch Bitcoin, it's stable and could still surprise. Remember: Spread your bets, research projects, and only invest what you can afford to lose.

There can be other uses like for making payments on some site. I know fees is high but some sellers or site still accept only BTC.
