Why do people get banned?

I noticed number of posts where author is Banned and was curious:

* What are some of the common offences that will get you banned?
* How do I ensure that I'm not banned?

People who usually get banned are scammers or have done things that shouldn't be done, but from what i've seen most of them are getting banned either for scamming, spamming or buying accs to spam their posts with "thanks itworked.. " etc..
