Okay, so my friend (who should've known better) got caught by laser scammers on TikTok.

thepocketlaser dot com is a fake company that is scamming people on Tiktok. They never actually send them to buyers. Lots of people have left comments saying they were scammed, but Tiktok keeps promoting the website.

Now, those lasers have been around for over 20 years, yet they get promoted. Anyone claiming that these lasers are something new or special is likely a scammer. So many people are still unaware of the importance of doing research before buying anything, and so they fall victim to scams like these.

Who else feels that Social Media are advertising companies with no standards whatsoever and these scams can easily spread through their platforms.

What other scams like that have you come across?

Tiktok, Google, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc are not tech companies. They are advertising companies without standards.
Just because you see it in social media ads, doesn't mean that the seller is a legit seller. And these scammers operate on a "churn & burn" basis. The moment one of their ad goes down, the very next second, their new ad is up and running (on a different domain/website). And this will keep going on, because such scammers are nasty enough to effectively monetize the fact that https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/there%27s_a_sucker_born_every_minute. It is as simple as that.

I must admit I was quite amused by the link you provided ;)

This churn & burn tactic reminds me of designer drugs - some countries banned some chemical combinations and immediately there were new ones, just slightly altered.

is it really fake company? or just badly managed and the lasers they're sourcing take 90+ days to ship.
e-com guys take the time to buy a domain, set up and configure shopify, create and fund their ad campaign. why do all that just to stop at fulfillment. majority of your customers will initiate refund and there goes your stripe account with it.
i think most people are catching on that all that ecommerce ads stuff you can look up on amazon/aliexpress and get a better version or cheaper price.
with the low barrier of entry to do e-com and paid ads, anyone can set up shop. no way to tell who is doing it carelessly. at least refunds are easy.
