Yeah all this and I guess lots of people do it because most huge OF stars are also famous on Socials, so all the guys watching there reels/tts etc get hooked and then just follow the funnel.....

Fun fact. OF wasn't started to be the website it is today. It was supposed to be for bands, influencers, etc of the clothed type.
But, anyways on the topic of people spending money on OF there's loads of reasons. Feel closer to the creator, more intimate, want to support their work, like the content and want to support it, feels more intimate than one of the websites, status symbol. I guess you could as the same question about why people spend money on Twitch or Patreon tbh.
